Summer Transfer Window 25/26 *Sponsored by Bigpig*

Yeah, plus i would assume there was some kind of upfront fee on top of the £5m cancellation payment.

I imagine he's doing a Trent and just waiting it out to try and get a signing on bonus next summer.
Reportedly there wasn't an up front loan fee - that's what Stefan was basing his tweet off anyway.

And regarding his wage, he wouldn't be earning much less than that. I posted about it before, Utd told investors (and backed up by their accounts) that Ronaldo, Sancho and Varane were costing Utd £70-80m per year in wages.

Media reports on wage figures are typically underreported these days and by quite a margin. I've lost count on the number of times I've laughed at reports that Liverpool only had 2 or 3 players earning more than £200k per week. Liverpool's (and Utd's) average first team salary is in the £200k per week region.

He's not on 385k per week, even if he did have the extra from being in CL which he doesn't.
Possibly but there's a lot of guess work in there. Utd's accounts disprove the constantly rolled out line about Utd players all having 25% wage reduction clauses in their contract for missing out on the CL. While many might, there's not a chance all do. Utd's wagebill fell by just 11% in Q1 of this year compared to last.

Well, would be better if we could get some money for him, but maybe he can get on better with Amorim and contribute.

I don't know if Amorim will even entertain the idea. I think that even if he does he will very quickly find that there is a reason he has struggled under recent managers and wasn't bought by Chelsea for what was fundamentally a low fee.

I'm not sure there was any issue about his attitude at Chelsea or have I missed something? The issue is the small fee comes with a massive contract which his performances don't justify.

One way or another he'll leave Utd this summer, it's just a case of what is the cheapest way for Utd to do that. I don't see a world where any club pays Utd a fee + takes on his full wage when they know Utd want rid and he's only got a year left.

It depends on how much United want rid of him tbh. He seemingly had no issues at Dortmund, and there’s clearly talent there. I suspect another player who, once they’ve retired they’ll look back and think about how they wasted their top years by being petulant or demanding and not working hard.

I think he’ll go elsewhere but we might end up subsidising his wage.

I doubt Amorim would want him but perhaps he might see how things go in preseason? Could he play as a 10… probably not.

I seem to remember watching an interviews of the secret behind his success at Dortmund was that he got paired or buddied with Haaland during everything, and as Haaland was so disciplined it rubbed off on him or he followed his actions. Not sure if that's 100% true or not. I would defo put him in that Lindgard, Pogba etc category who just thinks they are too good to have to put the hard work in and would prefer to dance in a tik tok video.

Need some type of figure like Roy Keane to keep them in a straight line.

He’ll see how things go and within 3 seconds, he’ll have seen enough! No chance he plays. Just a matter of how we get rid of the cretin.

Bruno, Mbeumo and Cunha is an exciting trio of players for next season. Glad Bruno is staying although I am a bit surprised.

I can’t see the Saudi League ever having sustained appeal, but I suppose it’s possible over a very long period of time.

Annoying about Sancho but I was expecting it.
Tried and tested players, I know not all players we buy will be from the EPL but the more the better that's for sure

We have bought too many flops from other leagues

Also I know we have Mainoo, Garnacho, Amad but wouldn't mind seeing more of the youngsters playing too.

Good to see the likes of Chelsea, PSG etc. doing well with young teams

I haven't heard anything directly about his attitude at Chelsea but they will have known roughly what they would be expected to pay him upon making the transfer permanent so the fact they haven't suggests that they don't think he has performed at a level to justify that. Hes perfectly capable of performing at that level so the fact he hasn't suggests his application levels weren't there.

I agree to an extent regarding him not performing to the level they felt justified the fee however I strongly suspect Chelsea were being very opportunistic with the deal and took him on a cheap loan and would have tried to renegotiate any deal with you anyway had they wanted to keep him. It was pretty much no lose for them, if he flopped they hand him back, if he does ok then he's done a short-term job for them relatively cheaply and if he gets back to his best then they've grabbed a bargain.

I'm not sure you can directly link performances to application though. The cost was probably just too high and Chelsea have realised they could spend their money better elsewhere.

Man Utd went from signing players from their rivals (Arsenal - Van Persie, Liverpool - Owen)
To signing players from their rivals (Brentford, Wolves)

Funnily enough though, Arsenal only have one attacker who is clearly better in Saka? I think the rest have hit their ceiling except perhaps Martinelli.

I wonder if the plan will be to play Mbeumo as a striker. I don't see him at #10. It'll be Cunha+Bruno or Amad.

That's assuming we can get him, Brentford might play hardball and Ratcliffe will have a hissy fit.

Cunha's a bit 'meh' for me, I like Mbuemo a lot personally, but surely it's not a 'priority position' for Man utd to spend their supposed limited transfer budget?
We don't score goals. With Cunha and Mbeumo they bring goals and assists. I'm not sure there is a bigger priority than players that can add penetration and goals. We are moving on Sancho, antony, Rashford and Garnacho. So 4 out and 2 in seems sensible business. I'm not sure Cunha is aptly described by "meh" - I think he's a risk but sometimes that is what works. Personally i see those two players as upgrades on what we have. I guess the more obvious question is - where does Fernandes, Mbeumo and Cunha all start together? It also suggests that Mount and Zirkzee will have a challenge getting a game.
