Anything else I need to build it myself? Thermal paste, tool kit or anything else? Its been 15 - 20 years since I built a PC!

I’m back with more questions.. is there something between x870 and the card I suggested? USB 3.2 gen 2 is what I need after some experimenting with my work laptop.

At a push usb 3.2 gen 1 could work but I’d rather avoid it if possible.

The main difference between X870 and B850 is USB4 is required to be present on X870.

USB 3.2 Gen 2: I'd check the motherboard specs. From what I can see, the board suggested above has 1x USB 3.2 Gen 2 and 1x USB 3.2 Gen 1 (on the rear I/O panel).

That’s how I read it was well. 1 x 3.2 gen 2 is enough for me. Everything else look ok? Anything additional I need tools etc?

Nope, should get everything you need in the box. 99% of coolers have paste bundled or pre-applied.

board has 4 usb 3.2 gen 2 connections on back but no usb4, so not missing out going b650e...basically what a x870 is anyway, just diff config...below is with a 7600x3d i was putting together for a friend of my son
though just saw the b850 tomahawk max wifi is reduced to £219.98 away..would probably steer him that way maybe, but below is still a good board. the msi does have wifi7 and a 5gb lan port on it though and is a good board too
save a bit going cheaper 9070xt(pulkse is £30 less) but I have the nitro+ myself and love it, and lesser ram, but the gskill on cheapest price I've seen for it's 6000C30 so stuck it in
psu is £20 cheaper on offer away. just used it for my younger sons build and is fine..the Meg version is £109 though with 10yrs warranty if you prefer(again away), but this still decent with a 7yrs warranty..
I switched to the non rgb version on the cooler as cheaper. put it in as more than enough for the 7600x3d, going to be using it on a 98003cd, not too bulky and easy to fit(which i need to factor for my sons friend)
left most as is as OP said happy with maybe £100 more so that would give an idea and come in budget

having the nitro+ 9070xt, hooked up to a lgc4 4k screen, I can tell you it plays fine at 4k, and will only get better as more titles integrate fsr4 also. I read that developers integrating fsr4/psp pro version for games on the psp pro, if they want to use it, have to adopt it for their pc version now also. That should help the rollout I'm guessing, though there is a program called optiscaler that can integrate it anyway

Urghh so I have settled on the below, CPU is the last remind question. If I am gaming at 4k today and maybe 1440 in the near future possible what CPU 7800 3d, 9700x or the 7600X would I notice much difference if I got the 7600X? 9700X seems like the middle ground which achieves nothing.

@mickyflinn @Tetras thoughts? I've asked Chat GPT, and that didn't give a definitive answer!

Not a massive difference on cpu choice at 4k but 1440p the x3d will shine.

below is worth a look...shows how the 9800x3d can still shine at 4k gaming, but dependent of the game..(and one of the reasons is that a lot of people game 4k with upscaling on)....
Steve doespoint out it depends a lot on the game, and if you like playing everything with eye candy on max etc, the cpu becomes less of a factor as you're gpu limiting the game anyway...remember also that this is with a 4090....if you're using a lower card the difference narrows...but in a way it shows how a cpu will age or get better if you upgrade your gpu down the line..it has the grunt for better cards...
anyway, if you watch the below, it might help with your choice...as you know the type of games you play

There's no wrong answer, there are pros/cons to both options.

I agree with you about the 9700X being in a nowhere middle-ground, though for a mixed usage/productivity build it would make more sense to have the 8 cores and the better compute performance.

Right now? The 7600X is a good deal, but if you can afford the X3D then I'd get it.

It offers you a more consistent framerate and it'll really pay off in games that like the cache. The 7600X is more of a stopgap CPU that'll definitely need upgrading when you next do the GPU.

That said, if e.g. the CPU upgrade means you have to dump the 5070 Ti for a 5070, I'd get the 5070 Ti.

Something to note that on first boot it can take up to 15mins for anything to show on screen and may reboot a few times this is because the motherboard is training the memory so be patient.

They're aware of the issues and have been releasing bios updates to resolve them, but given the OP is going for a 7600 I'm sure he'll be fine.

By the time he decides to upgrade to an X3D (assuming he even does) I'd be surprised if there was any problem at all.

I did read about this, it seemed to be a storm in a teacup only affecting a few cases and predominantly on 9800X3D only

I'd forgotten about that, but Jesus that's pricy, it wasn't all that long ago that the 7800X3D's were going for close to £300 and the 7600X can be had for £145 right now.
