Ballerina

Went last night and while verging on the ridiculous at some parts (lets be honest JW did as well in parts) it was decent enough watch, it did feel very much like a JW film as there were enough of the JW characters and locations to tie it in, was a solid enough film and if you like the JW films you will also like this.

7/10

IMO the JW films get progressively worse, so which one is Ballerina most like if that's possible to answer?

I was planning on going to see this on Friday with some friends (a couple couldn't make it until the 13th at the earliest).

It's ending it's run after 7 days on Thursday 12th looking at the listings for Odeon and Cineworld.

No wonder "cinema attendance is declining", they're only putting films out for a week or two meaning people who've got other plans or work during that week can't go (my brother in law really wanted to see it, but he had already booked 6-9th away and works 12 hour shifts). One weekend is a joke for a proper film at the cinema.

I'm mildly annoyed at it, because this was the first film this year I was actually looking forward to going to see, and there was AFAIK no notice that it would be a 7 day "Contractual obligation" special.

That may just be localised to certain cinemas or they haven't released the screen yet. I can book right though next week on the app at my main Odeon but smaller ones nearby stop on Thursday.

Testing a few out at random, several cinemas on the Odeon app only have How to Train Your Dragon (2025) bookable for this weekend.

I'll check again, but i think my locals (both fairly large) have other films bookable but something like "last screening date 12th of june", having said that i think it only has about 3 films bookable so it might just be terrible wording.

I only enjoyed the first JW film tbf, but my best mate is a big fan of the series, so I'll wait for it to come out on VOD and have it as one of our movie nights.

Checked again just now.

At sometime between about 2am and now they updated the listings, so I'm going to book for Friday:)

*mutters rude things about websites not updating and using descriptions that say it's ending rather than "not confirmed past this date"*

I'd rate it above 2,3 and 4.

I'm basing that on the fact that while Ballerina is fresh in my memory, I remember ALL of John Wick, but only parts of 2,3 and 4.

The minor part JW plays in this movie makes it.

Agreed, and this pretty much sums it up. Nothing really original here, but usual JW universe OTT action.

Not sure who the intern was who did the CGI for the car scene, however :D Probably the same team who did the lawn poop from JW1

Yeah. I said I'd go watch this but prices here took a hike it's now about 15 quid a ticket, then petrol parking 80km round trip.. f that.

They closed our local shoebox cinema for renovation (probably never reopen as it was a bottomless money pit to run)

Sad day to live with the reindeer people:p

Hurry up and watch it and let us know what you think. :)

I actually got to see it on Friday with my brother in law, and brother (we seem to make up about half the viewers for most films we see together*), and we all really enjoyed it, fun, shooty, some great scenes, built on the world of JW quite nicely (and as my BIL said "no time wasted as you already know the basics), and felt very much like the first couple of JW films.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing it again on home video when it comes out:)

*We typically go for about a Friday noon showing, as that's the one time slot BIL reliably free for 3-4 hours.

Saw this earlier today, quite enjoyed it and Ana de Armas was great. I didn't think it was quite as good as any of the JWs, but after three of those it's probably becoming difficult to surprise and impress audiences when so much of it has been done before. It still had its moments though, and the focus on melee/improvised weapons was a nice change though the grenade scene(s) while fun were a bit silly.

Hopefully it gets a second wind on rental/streaming.
