Air India Crash

The video of him strolling about, no tears no devastation, I would expect someone to be an absolute wreck

He wasn't 'strolling about', he was limping and was likely still in shock. He'll be lucky if he doesn't end up with a brutal case of survivor's guilt.

Indian media visited the hospital where he's recovering, and squeezed an interview out of him. He looks and sounds utterly traumatised.

I don't think I have, no.

Well there you go, you have now.

The complete emotional and situational detachment from what's just happened / what's going on is a common immediate (involuntary) response to a major traumatic event.

It's not always like in movies where everyone starts crying and screaming their loved ones names, at that stage he's probably barely able to comprehend he's just been in a plane crash at all.

Yeah, he's going to get a very strong dose of "Why me?!" over the next few days/months/years. To be the only survivor of something that took out 240-odd people and 'walk' out of it relatively unscathed is insane. If it happened in a movie we'd be calling it stupid and unbelievable plot armour. Yet life truly is stranger than fiction.

Was watching the Netflix Titan documentary and the blogger on that had bad survivors guilt. This guy is going to be that ramped up to 100.
