Fuji X Series

I’d say it was in an effort to make the package [x-e5] a closer alternative to the x100vi.
There is also the possibility that they saw a need for A new pancake but decided that neither 18 nor 27 were warranted.

I agree, my assumption is they are trying to market the xe5 as an x100 alternative to capture some of that crowd and so wanted to give it a comparable 23mm lens, However it's f2.8 not f2. If you want an f2.8 pamcake lens the 27mm already exists and is close enough and if you want f2 the 23mm f2 exists and isn't much larger realistically. I would understand it more if they had managed to make it an f2 pancake to directly match the x100.
What I really don't get though is releasing a WR lens with a non WR body, at the price of that thing theres no excuse for it not being weather resistant.

You make some good points, I thought the X-E5 was WR? I watched a load of YouTube videos yesterday and I’m sure one of the guys said it was - maybe a mistake.

I could be wrong but im sure I've read in a few places that it wasnt.

They come into stock frequently but they are sold almost immediately. You can get one if you really want one but there is a little work and luck involved. At a minimum, pre-order and wait a couple of weeks.

Im not in the market for one. But i do remember the hype last year and thought they were bound to be in stock by now.

Fuji seems to be really popular since covid, it's not just photographers buying them but everyone who want a camera and they are getting it like a fashion accessory.

It’s funny how some people make the argument that the ridiculous prices (and let’s face it, it’s for basically everything now with a Fujifilm badge) is because of the lack of interest in photography > lower sales > higher R&D costs > higher prices. Their financials suggest strong margins and explosive growth in consumer digital cameras so it seems to me it’s just pricing power from Fujifilm rather than higher costs, tariffs, pandemic supply chain issues etc etc.

Personally I’m all for the Fujifilm hype and think it’s a great thing so many people are getting into photography. Smart phone photos suck anyway, iPhone images are all over-processed garbage, so great to see so many people buying a proper camera.

Any chance someone could explain what's special with the new X-E5 "recipe" options on the dial, compared against the existing custom options on the cameras with PASM dials (e.g. C1-C4 on the X-S10/S20)? This "new" e5 USP seems to be getting some attention, but I can't understand what's new? (but, yes, I appreciate that nobody yet has one of these cameras, so it's probably guesswork for everyone?)

Fuji cameras are fun to use because of their physical controls and they generally produce great pictures.

My past experience with recipes on Fuji’s is that they weren’t really recognised as such. For example on custom presets you couldn’t change the white balance, that was global. It looks like Fuji is actually allowing these to be setup as recipes now and giving you all the options per custom recipe.
