BMW and M Power Owners

Anyone with any experience of an M5 Comp and an M8 Comp GC, is it much of an upgrade or is it much of a muchness? I understand they both have the same engine, so not expecting any difference there and from what I can see the M8 has pretty epic depreciation which can work in your favour when buying but probably not so great when you move it on. Looking at 2022 plates

Cheers

When I had a look a while back, apart from the obvious external differences, there were a few nicer interior touches /leather on the M8, but not anywhere near enough to justify the price hike. Depending which age M5, facelift got some of the suspension improvements from M8. I also found the rear noticeably more cramped that the M5.

Thanks TomO, I suspected that may be the case. I have a 21 plate F90 LCI so should have the updated suspension. Sounds like it isn’t worth the extra expense, cheers.

Also looking at 330e now cheaper I guess obviously then the M135I not as quick :p but I think it might do me, what do people think to 330e?

ignoring the obvious 6 cyl > 4cyl. Any reason hybrid appeals? they are quite different to drive.

More MPG I guess which is always a plus.

I just realised that RWD but they have Xdrive one, I have never driven a RWD before and abit concerned of driving one in the bad weather snow etc :p

Maybe im going back to M135I or 128i

Is a 128Ti in budget? Those are supposed to be quite good

modern traction control makes it pretty tricky to mess up that bad. Yes, they are worse in the snow, but with winter tyres on they are way better than a 4wd with summer tyres on.

Ye Ill stretch to £24k but im thinking why go 128i when M135i faster and its available for the same amount of money, on top of that there one 128i on the market locally compared to 15 for the M135i.

Plus you got AWD in the 135 compared to FWD in the 128.

Just posting to say I love the M2. Was driving the kids around to a birthday party in the countryside and with the windows down it sounds amazing (looking at you, S58). The PSS are going to get us killed one of these days but it's such a laugh. Just the right amount of power too. G8x is epic on track, but where are you going to use ~500 bhp? :p :o
Part of me wants to get a set of CS7 on the back so it stop stepping out even in the dry, but part of me enjoys the complete hooligan that it is. Also if anyone asks, my son made me do the donut in the supermarket carpark :D (edit - it was closed!)

If you want speed, yes the M135i is better.

Supposedly the 128 Ti is better to drive than earlier iterations of the M135i due to better chassis configuration. In gear it won’t be much slower either due to less drivetrain loss, even though it is less horsepower.

I believe that BMW introduced a similar suspension setup that's on the 128 to the M135i a couple of years ago.

I'd check the warranty situation with BMW first. It's fine to transfer an AUC/Extended warranty from a private seller to a private buyer, but when the car has been sold into the motor trade, I think it may be different...

This is my understanding as well if it's an insured policy. The policy documents are available on the BMW site and confirm this. It's probably worth having a look through the documents yourself on the BMW warranty site.

I am not sure what the situation is with the approval used car warranty though.

"No cash alternative or refund is available if you do not wish to receive or wish to cancel this warranty. You may transfer any unexpired period of warranty to another private owner but not to a buyer engaged in the business of purchasing, selling or servicing of vehicles."

"5. For annual policies only and provided that a refund has not been claimed, any balance of your BMW Insured Warranty remaining may be transferred to another private owner, subject to our approval, who buys your vehicle from you but not to a buyer engaged in the business of purchasing, selling or servicing motor vehicles."

"Monthly policies are not transferable. BMW Insured Warranty cover is not transferable to you from a motor retailer"

Also confirmed via a call today.

I either need to buy privately and continue an existing policy (no thanks) or buy an AUC car. Buying from a non-BMW dealer will mean starting a new policy at the new customer rate with no discount.

Toyota have called me every single day since last week. I get the impression they're desperate to sell me the car. In 6 days the listing has gone from £37,997 to £37,484. Less appealing as it doesn't come with BMW Insured Warranty. An option could be to drop the price further or ask for additional years of Toyota warranty. However, I have no idea how good the Toyota warranty is.

It also doesn't leave a great taste that Toyota explicitly stated that BMW warranty was transferable, when it's clearly not.

As suspected then - I'd just hold out for an AUC one personally.

Also, I doubt Toyota would be offering their own manufacturer warranty for a different brand? Have they actually told you what it is? It could be an RAC Platinum/Warrantywise type of thing.

BMW will potentially give you the warranty renewal discount if you have at least 3 months supplied when you buy the car - I've asked them about this before. It doesn't need to be a BMW warranty. Worth looking into perhaps.
