EV general discussion

It was Renault Zoe that uses the inverter for 43kW AC 3 phase. Nothing innovative as it was painfully unreliable and offered no DC fast charging and no new hubs have AC fast charging like that since the old ABB ecotricity stuff has been removed.

Jpaul EMC noise. We need filter…

Two Tesla firsts for me today. Saw my first Cybertruck in the metal... ridiculous. Although in the land of the "Super Heavy Duty" truck possibly less so. It really does look like a computer game graphic that hasn't rendered properly :p

Second one was my first updated Tesla Model Y. Now I'm not up on my Tesla info but as a muggle at first glance square on at the front, I didn't even know it was a Tesla. In fact I thought it was a Lucid something-or-other. Only as I started to get the side in view did I see it was clearly a Tesla as the side profile and distinctive door handles remain the same.

Finally joined the EV club (again) today.
We are going down to one car in the house not counting my daughters Twingo. Mrs's lease Qashqai goes back next month and she has the SUV affliction so wasn't keen to make do with the Passat which has been trusted friend for the last 3.5 years. Been considering Q4, Enyaq, Ix3 but ended up picking up an ID.4. To be honest I had been slightly put off by a lot of the negative press around the VW EVs but I think it's going to be fine. The main thing is that she likes it, we reduce our running costs and have something that the kids don't complain about making them feel sick.

Have only driven it back from the garage but it's pretty impressive and my only negative would be that it's got 20" wheels and you feel every bump! on crappy surfaces. Part of that is SUV and part the wheels. The PAssat was quite a comfortable old barge.

Have spent a bit of time trying to set it all up including the VW Apps and Octopus Intelligent Go. I'll see if it's worked in the morning! Any tips welcomed.
I'm in the same boat with octopus so let me know how you get on with setting it up please...

I am having "fun" with the chargers at work this morning, Shell recharge ones so you either have an RFID card which is in the post or you can scan the QR code. Yesterday parked up plugged in scanned the QR put in my payment details everything chugged along nicely.

Today parked up at another charger in the row, plugged in scanned the QR code "QR payment not available" error, tried the one next to it same error.

Drove down to the working one from yesterday got it all setup and went to my office. Popped out an hour and a half later just to check it as my MG app isn't setup yet and it was just sat on connecting so no charge. Cancelled that one, plugged into the one next to it cars pings up it's charging lovely. Put payment details in hit confirm "FRAUD" error pops up

I've walked away before I kick something :o and I'll stop at a BP rapid charger on my way home and prepare the lube. Home charger can't come soon enough...

I saw my first Byd on Monday, a Seal in black and it's a very nice looking car. Pity about the two "tablets" that make up the dash but the rest of the interior was gorgeous and I could even probably get used to the glass roof. I would buy one and it will definately be on my list when it comes time to replace the Leaf.

That sounds frustrating. So far my work place ones have been quite good. Just simple 7.2kw AC ones which you just tap in and out of with a fob.

Octopus is plug and play, I've never touched my Zappi charger and the only thing on the Octopus App is setting 80% to be done for 5:30am.
Thanks, I'm going to charge over the 3 pin but with the car connected and charging the smart meter is supposed to be able to detect it, is that right?
Also, does anyone know if the large block that is on the 3 pin adaptor cable is waterproof?

Not a great start 2 days into running an EV , that's generally how these ones work once you've got the RFID card speaking to my colleagues although even they have had the odd temperamental one.

starmer should be visiting nissan plant too - looks attractive with z-car rear
for ev rear legroom perhaps have to accept suv, vs saloon, height ..... 11/22kw charging, as well as nacs ?

Be VERY vigilant scanning QR codes on EV chargers (or any QR codes in public places generally), particularly Shell ones. They are being actively targeted by organised criminals to skim card details.

Kind of a similar side profile to an ID5

Honestly, im not a fan of these bulbous/almost squashed looking cars with wheels that look too big for the body.

Not overly terrible though. The front and back end look reasonable.
