*** The Official Nintendo Switch 2 ***

Interesting how come? I've come from the oled and I think they done a great job, obviously you don't get those inky blacks of oled, the only issue for me is the over saturation and white accuracy but I get why they did it to try and make the screen 'pop', just not that accurate.

Exactly what you said, I don't like things that should be dark glowing on my screen. Switch 2 is the only non OLED device I have now and I guess it was inevitable I wouldn't get on with the screen.
For me it's one of those things where you can't go back after having OLED. Really not a big issue though as I'm far more comfortable using the pro controller on the TV.

I personally can't get over how uncomfortable this device is. I get that it is better than s1, but this does not change the fact that it is still nasty to me (in comparison to steam deck, any gamepads etc). I play on tv only with cyclone 2, as all I have while playing handheld is unpleasant feeling.

In my shopping basket I have a 13" 4k OLED portable monitor that can be powered by a battery or directly off a USB-C port like a Mac...I have been thinking getting one as my travel work set up so I can use dual monitor with my MBP....anyway, normally I wouldn't get the touch screen version but I am now thinking i should get the touchscreen version because I can then use it with the Switch / Steam Deck. The problem however is the Switch wouldn't work without the official dock I think whereas the Steam Deck can output via USB-C to HDMI via a regular cheap USB hub.

This is gonna sound cliche, but my suspicion is thier hardware design team still focuses on designing for Japanese people to exclusion of elsewhere. Given how monocultural and xenophobic Japan can be, and how relatively rare foreigners are outside of Tokyo/tourism hotspots, compared to most of the west, it's kinda understandable.
It's hard to translate unless you've been there, but the average person is Japan is considerably smaller than the average in the west; to the point as a 6'3 white guy, I genuinely scared a few people there by accident, (BTW phenomenal place to visit - worth it, and I can't look at our vending machines the same way anymore) and unfortunately I believe that translates into them designing things that really do feel just a bit small and unpleasant compared to those designed for western hands, albeit the Pro Controller is excellent, but again, I suspect its designed to be CHUNKY from a Japanese perspective, but happens to be 'just right' from ours.
As a side effect, it also keeps moulding a bit simpler and easier for them to deal with, and doesn't get in the way of the stand at all; or the new mouse functionality.

Ultimately, if they released some aftermarket handgrips for the western market, this entire situation would be resolved, but I suspect they know the western/aftermarket accessory manufacturers will do that anyway, so they don't need to; and after the dramas they probably anticipated from the pricing, they didn't want to add to the cost and include them in the box either.

Not a defence, but a rationalisation of the situation - it was probably cheaper, easier, caused less design conflicts, and better for the local market to design it that way; with the knowledge larger handgrips etc would be designed by the 3rd party community almost instantly anyhow.

On another note - Nintendo UK sorted out my missing code Mario Kart World code for me, and as I think I already mentioned, John Lewis compensated me pretty well for the situation as they couldn't replace the console easily; gave me 25% back on a gift card, on top of the warranty still being valid for 2 years, so I'm kinda laughing at the end, 25% discount off the bundle, plus the money I'd got off it before I ordered + Quidco, and I've got the game as well now thanks to Nintendo's efforts (yay - nice to see somewhere that still believes customer service should exist).

I'll be ordering DK from John Lewis to use some of this gift card but thier overall Switch 2 software stock is relatively lackluster right now, so I'll be waiting for them to get more in to spend the rest there, as that's a decent chunk of change, and I've already got the Pro Controller/Camera.

Ultimately though it does mean I'll have ultimately got Switch 2, Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong, and ~ £40 credit to put toward something else later, for less than the standard price of the CONSOLE ONLY Switch 2 - definately helps offset the cost of the Pro Controller and the Micro SD Express card (I got a bargain deal on the 256GB Official Nintendo/Samsung version on preorder, £33, so that'll do me until larger cards become more affordable) and I'm not blind to the fact the fact I've got a fairly substantial discount here (probably closer to 1/3 overall) might also be helping me overlook some of the drawbacks of the machine - as stated there's no such thing as a bad product, just a bad price, and I've essentially happened to get a much better price than most...

Also realised I have £13 of Game Collection points, so might have to order Guardians of Azuma, as that looks like a tidy little upgrade on Switch 2, and an ideal portable game given the current lack of a new AC.

There is an argument that they just want a more slimmer console and put ergonomics wayyyy down the list of priorities. This is from someone who find the console uncomfortable too. I literally played 1 race in MKW and have decided I wouldn't be using it that way from that point onwards and why I bought that £15 pad. I rather use that pad than with the joycons attached on the go.

To my mind its just a much better Switch 1 which is fine for me. I don't game a huge amount. We will see how it looks in a few years. I have a PS5 that barely gets touched these days. If they every released Sky Go on the Switch 2 I would sell the PS5.
Switch Pro :P which I’m okay with as that’s what I wanted honestly.

Wish they’d hurry up and patch Luigi’s mansion 3 with 60fps though. I want galaxy 1 and 2 ported also.

Again, honestly wouldn't surprise me, the Switch 2 probably already still feels massive to the average Japanese person, and that's whom I really think they design for primarily; we're an afterthought there.

Is the expansion pass worth it for switch online?

I know it comes with the two zelda updates for switch 2 but I'm not sure if it's worth it elsewise

Been on ToTK all week and a bit of MKW at the weekend when beer is involved.

I am in the Switch upgrade or Pro if you prefer. Happy with that. It’s a really nice upgrade of the base Switch 1. Never had an OLED so I am not missing the screen.

For £28 a year? Absolutely.

Considering the joy cons are removable, I'm surprised Nintendo has never made an aftermarket joy con with the rear grips built in, and still make it work just about with the original dock. The rear grips don't need to be massive, just big enough for your fingers to actually hold on to something.

Surely this would be a massive seller, at least in the western market, they just have to look at all the cases that have the grips built in to see that.

Shopto are genuine, used to be one of my GO-TOs but as they got larger/more established, prices went up, and so they're not my regular first choice anymore.

Typically that tends to be Game Collection these days with a side dose of rainforest and indian meal for the sometimes decent pre-order prices.

I am certain there will be 3rd party versions, with better sticks coming. The problem however is licencing, as I am sure Nintendo have patented the magnet attachment mechanism.

Nintendo Switch 2 Firmware 20.1.5 seems to help sort out some of the issues with backwards compatibility, Pikmin seems to work a lot better now.

I noticed Mario Kart World got an update yesterday when I loaded it. Anyone know what was updated?
