McDonald’s general discussion

Not sure, there is something about burger joint where they cook the burger fresh in front of you, hard to compare a burger place where they just do burger and a pub which chef will do a lot of different dishes. They could just serve you Iceland frozen burger and chips on a plate and it taste good after a few pints. I have been to some pubs which serve really nice food from scratch and good value, not many in London.

I usually ask if they use a catering burger, made inhouse or supplied by local butcher and will select something else from the menu if a catering burger.

Not sure about London as our eating is mostly from Kent to Dorset with visits to Canary Wharf and places we usually eat at are already known for their food and the like and would loose business fast if found to be using Iceland burgers..

Different locations have different costs. Think airport or shopping centre where there is high rent, business rates and labour costs compared to a drive through in the middle of nowhere where they own the land.

There is a significant variation in pricing between franchises, a cup of tea can be £1.09 at one site and £1.49 down the road at a different franchise.

They seem to fit between two price brackets after having a look at a few of my closest venues on the app, including 2 "service station" venues of which one had location 1 price and one had location 2 price, on the same road:

Extra Value Meal Medium6.996.49

I was going to say, is it just location or also due to the franchise model also?

Both - they are mostly franchises but head office had control over what they can charge.

Head office has pricing tiers which franchisees can choose from but head office keeps them in check to make sure they are not out of line with what is realistic for the location, type of store and what customers will be willing to pay. e.g. the top price tier cant be picked by your local drive thru but can be by one in a motorway serivces.

I had my first mcdonalds in years.

Got the franks burger to try it. Thought it was alright but the fries were terrible, have they changed them? The weren’t hot either. Forgot the old trick of no salt I guess but my coke was terrible too.

Maybe it was just nostalgia but I remember it being way better.

Might have to go get a breakfast from there tomorrow as a sausage and egg is elite.

Ii went into one on downham market (Norfolk) on Sunday, about 2pm, me and the Mrs and our 7 year old, we didn't order anything obscure either, took 24 minutes from the point the order went through to the food turning up.

Not acceptable......

Nah.. When you can buy this for the same price as a 'burger of dispair' meal from McDonald's...

And cook it in half the time it takes to get through the drive through!
