*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

I didn't think there was an option for dish anymore?

I'd stream all day long. My puck has been excellent for the past 2 years and the software is always punchy.
Yes, but for all the folks with a dish, the question is, is going to a streaming service an image a downgrade (as it used to be reported a while back).

Out Sky Q will be cancelled this month after 20+ years of subscription.

Too expensive and I am sick to death of dealing with their call centres, hard sell cold calls and general anti consumer practices. I removed HD and UHD as it only applies to a handful of channels we watch with BBC, ITV, 4 etc not needing the package.to receive in HD. Well...screw me.....it's clear Sky intentionally downgrade their SD broadcasts which look worse than analogue terrestial broadcasts from 30 years ago.

Cant even lock in a deal on contract anymore which are liable to price changes on a whim.

I don't have a problem with Sky moving to streaming, they just (from my experience) have a very poor implementation of it.

The picture quality was fine to me, but often the audio and picture gets out of sync which is really annoying and changing channels didn't fix it.

My biggest issue was the extra ads being inserted. This often seemed to cause buffering and would knacker whatever I was watching. So the 4 hour NFL show would go back to the beginning and you couldn't skip back to where you were as it wanted to show me more ads!

I also had issues IIRC when selecting watch from beginning, if anything impacted the stream and the show had then finished it would be gone and I couldn't get it back.

Sounds like you have several problems with SKY moving to streaming tbh, that's a very poor experience you're paying for.

Yeah it does sound like that :)

I meant in principal, I'm not bothered about a dish and a hard drive if their service worked.

There are a number of decent streaming services but Sky has a bad implementation at the moment and aren't customer friendly, they just try and constantly gouge more money and restrict where and how you can access the service.

Why can't I run the Sky app on my PS5 without an upgrade? Why does multiroom cost so much? Why do they limit the number of devices to so few?

Obviously the answer to all these questions is simple, more money for Sky.

I cancelled and returned Sky Stream within the cooling off period so I'm not paying for anything.

1. because it's akin to Multiscreen so Sky limits it to customers that actually buy Multiscreen?
2. because it gives customers more flexibility so they make you pay for that. At least one payment now covers all extra boxes. Previously it was extra per box.
3. So you can't give out your details to all your relatives?

Multiscreen using my own devices should be included as standard, as far as I'm concerned, this shouldn't even be a thing.

Sky used to limit you to 2 or 3 devices, maybe it's more now but we have multiple consoles and tablets all over the house, let alone phones. And if you did want to switch devices it was only allowed a couple of times a year or some nonsense.

I don't think letting your customers access the service they are paying how they want to (for the base price) is too much to ask for.

Netflix etc. have managed to clamp down on account sharing so people are not sharing their details with all and sundry easily enough.

You do get usage on a single device AFAIK with the base subscription, but I think Consoles do need a Multiscreen Sub but it's been years since I worked Domestic.
There's still a limit, but I think it's been eased over the years. They limit concurrent streams i think.
Sky have been doing what Netflix started doing for years.

Sky Go ran fine on my XBox without a multiroom subscription. Not sure how many simultaneous streams I could have as there is only little old me, but the 6 device limit was more of an issue.

Just cancelled today, my contract was running out in the next few weeks and it was going up to £103 a month. I used to pay £53 then the usual price rises came in and it crept up until that £103 figure.

The whole cancellation dance really does my head in. And there’s nothing to warrant the increase in price, there’s no improvement in any services, nothing. They’d probably retain and gain a load of customers just from keeping prices fixed and no annual price rises. Why don’t they lead by example for a change?

My Sky package (TV & internet) was about £65 until recently, then had one of their random increases to £72, and then in Oct it's increasing to nigh on £100 when my contract ends. So I'll phone beginning of Sep to see what they'll give me.

£65.60 → 72.50 → 98.50

That is true years go, as I did the same.

If you check the website now it says the following:

"Sky Go is ready and waiting for you on games consoles. All you need is either:

Sky TV Multiscreen, or;
Sky Streaming TV Whole Home, or;
Sky Go Extra"

Not sure if this belongs in here but here goes.

I have a negotiated deal with Sky which lasts until early 2027. I'm thinking of adding the TNT Sports pack to this but only for one month to cover specific events.

Q1. Can I add this for a single month and cancel it thereafter?
Q2. Is this going to cancel or negate my existing 'deal'?
Q3. Does this pack allow me to watch the TNT Sports channels on mini boxes?

Just a heads up for those cancelling that also had Netflix with Sky.

Just noticed Netflix took £18.99 from my account so cancelled online.

Words fail me.

My subscription deal ran out so going from £35 to £65 tried to renegotiate that got to £45 so said no sorry cancel after 12 years and then they said sorry we don’t want to lose your custom and dropped it to £37.09. But I said I was disappointed as a customer wanting to cancel is the only way to get a deal. I said please cancel my account. Done playing games with businesses like that you either value my custom or not.
