For me one that stands out in the old Sci Fi Genre is Space Engineers.

SE 2 looks very promising but they are still still updating SE 1 after all these years.

Cant help thinking if they had just put more emphasis on why you should build and survive they would have undoubtedly had one of the best games ever on PC. I regularly go back and build in this but then ultimately always leave again thinking there's not really that much point - the NPC threat is pretty lame (unless moded) and its a little better.
The DLC which is ok for a few £ extra (happy to keep supporting) but takes so long to get blocks in that everyone wants.

Such a missed opportunity I think to make one of the best games ever.

Delta Force Joint Operations. 75 vs 75 military warfare.

At the start of a game you would have to capture points and it would be 10 minutes before you even saw anyone. Then it would be a massive fight at the first chokepoint. I still remember driving over a bridge with my gunner, he got shot, but fell on the Humvee I was driving. Drove through the enemy, parked up, I was a medic so healed him, we ditched the car and then wove some uncertainty behind enemy lines with some hit and run battles.

I am confused. The thread title and the first post are completely at odds. Is it about games that We think are good but didn't review very well? Which is what the thread title suggests. Or is it about games that could have been great if only the developers had done x,y or z? Which is what the details in first post suggests.

And the game the OP suggests as his favourite game which didn't get the praise it deserves is Space Engineers. Which gets very positive reviews on Steam. And has won a few awards too. So not sure it really counts as a game that didn't get the praise it deserved?

Anyway, to answer both questions.

A game which I like that I don't think got the praise it deserved? King Arthur: The Role Playing War Game. Really enjoyed playing this. And was surprised it reviewed so poorly. Yes, there were some issues, like recruiting and been hugely outnumbered which made it very difficult to get into the game. But the setting for the game and the side quests were really good.

A game which I think could have been so much better if Developers had done x,y or z? Lone Echo. VR game, Brilliant start, such glorious movement mechanics and fantastic tools and utilities on your wrist. With a really good story(which carries the game) What do the developers do with all this amazing movement and interesting tools? Nothing, the game play is almost non existent. You are on a space station with an unknown ship coming through some kind of anomaly and the best puzzles and use of the tech on your wrist is to cut open a panel and replace battery and repeat(a lot) The story was trying to build tension etc. But again the gameplay was at odds with it. There was no way to fail. Like at the end there is supposed to be a mad dash through a tunnel filled with obstacles to save Olivia. But there is no need to rush. Go have a cup of coffee, take your time. You will make it in time no matter how long you take to get there.

TLOU2, 10/10 for me, I couldn't care less that people hated on it because the plot wasn't 'what they would have chose' etc, quite a pathetic way to critique it and put it down, in my opinion.
The engine is amazing, I've never had any issues with it or the first game, be it on the PS4 or PC, nor from the day one release or after patches.
I genuinely believe due to how easily offended everyone is these days, that it wont be long before we end up getting censorship again, so we probably will never see a game/plot this savage again.

Titanfall 2.

Was a great game, in all of its game modes but somehow it just passed so many people by and despite those that played it loving it, it never got wider traction in the marketplace

Agree. EA released it at the same sort of time as a Battleifled game... which sort of ruined the visibility of the game.

Project: IGI

Yes! Loved it.

It was years before I met someone in real life that had actually played it, they said it was great. I am right in thinking it's online based? I do like big mechs, loved the bit in FEAR2, and Zone Of The Enders was great back in the day!

I actually started replaying this recently, I nearly finished it years ago on the original Xbox port - surprisingly good that port was. I picked up the GOTY or whatever it was called for a few pounds recently on Steam, must go back and finish it, I managed to get further than I was before though :)

absolutely this. Titanfall 2 was an absolute masterpiece of a game. something in the back of my mind tells me EA released it around the same time as a BF game and as such it didn't get much marketing love which didn't help it's wider appeal.

Oni
&
Metal Fatigue

i really wanted an updated Oni

and MF was and still is unique on its 3 levels of battle, i cant think of any other RTS doing the same

Wasn't it released in between BF and COD? Pretty much a month either side of them, mean it had no chance even though it was a cracker and the single player was brilliant too.

I get the impression EA were trying to flood the market and hopefully steal COD's crown, was never going to happen.

Aye, there was defo something like happened with its release. Absolutely criminal how it was handled/released. Killed the game before it even had a chance.

Oni immediately came to mind before opening the thread, such a warm and fuzzy memory for some reason

One of my favourite games that I played through the full campaign 3-4 times as well as a bunch of custom missions that didn’t quite get the love it deserved was Fallout: Tactics.

Fallout fans were hoping for Fallout 2.5 at the time Tactics was released and didn’t want a turn seed game that didn’t feature the Lone Wanderer and turn based fans didn’t take to the Fallout story and sprite graphics.
