EV general discussion

Think he meant the discussion vs action balance of certain posts.

Waiting for my Ohme install. Will need unloop and non standard install though I think. Cable needs to go under two rooms to get to the CU

Has anyone used octopus for their EV charger install and how are they like?
£999 for a zappi seems like a decent price?
Tried but they were insistent on needing to see property deeds, none of the local installers had ever heard of needing to see deeds so went with one of them instead.

Why would you want that though?
You still need all the proper wiring etc etc to feed them 32A?
Just seems odd to do it that way vs a proper fixed wall mounted solution
I could use that!!! :D I could drive my car through the rear emergency doors into the Datacenter and unplug one of the rack PDU's (powering down a load of kit mind!...) and charge my car at work! :D

Not apples for apples, but my Ohme Pro was an extra £10 a month over 36 months on salary sacrifice and i get to keep it at the end of the deal.

nice....... that is a bargain! Dont forget (sorry if already covered) some EV car purchases - even 2nd hand - come with a complementary charge point install. Make sure before anyone gets one fitted that the car they are considering does not come with one!.

Taking into account the cost of the car and the fact the the charger doesn't get sold on with the car and can be used on the next one. Is the cost really anything worry about in the grand scheme of things?

Mine was paid for within 6 months of driving I think - EV’s saved me that much money!

As someone who spends (probably too much) time in the quest to save even £10 on stuff.............. i would say if its possible to save potentially £100s then its worth looking into.

as my mum used to say, look after the pennies and the pounds look after themselves. (that said i would say, she never experienced buying £5000 worth of crypto currency as those pounds definitely did not look after themselves! :D )

It's also the very definition of "YMMV". It would take my wife nearly seven years worth of fuel savings to offset the cost of having a charger fitted, for me it would take three and a half months.

OT but my timing with Crypto was rubbish. I'd just got my job back after being made redundant and had decided to clear the mortgage so only had a grand to put in, cashed out at £4.5k. Lesson learned, don't use all your money doing something sensible because it leaves you nothing to do something wreckless with :p
