Yeah. Can’t think of a reason not to get outside.
At least at this stage. Aim for outside and then retreat in if it’s bad on the day.

More so as I know my luck is the one time where I really can't afford to have a mechanical or accident is the time I have something happen and not able to get back for nursery pick up!

I knew you guys cared about me. Almost as much as you care about making me the but of the jokes!

Its the inherent elitism and snobbery in the sport i'm afraid. Until that di2 shows up you're going to be the whipping boy.

Hows all the house stuff going btw?

My waiting has almost paid off seeing as new shimano stuff is on the way, maybe. lol.

Really good thanks man. All in but we’ve not started putting things on the walls so it’s a bit soulless at the moment but so happy we did it. Stretched ourselves a little but the location is perfect for us. Only a 10 minute drive from Bristol city centre so we still get exceptional takeaway choices but we have the benefit of living in a conservation area village!

Wait, are you going to be mocking us soon!

I saw the latest GRX is completely wireless although I'm not sure I liked the shape of it. I quite like the fact the shimano di2 front and rear mechs are quite slimline because theres no direct battery.

Glad to hear you have your priorities right!

Sounds excellent though, congratulations and it always takes time to do anything house wise. Especially with children. We have a massive list of things to do before we sell our place but 90% of them probably won't get done. So little time unless I wanted to dedicate every spare moment to it. And I don't. I want to ride my bike!

Do you also wear protection in early spring and late summer or is it just the peak of summer where burning is a concern? I know my partner can burn in early spring if there are a few hot days on the bounce
I haven’t used it in the past during spring or late summer, but my new commute is 14 miles each way so I’m finding myself in the sun for a lot longer than I was in the past. I’m taking on way too much sun and I’m going to get skin damage if I don’t do something about it

Took the last ZRL round of the 24/25 season ('Summer Showdown') win with my team on Tuesday (EMEA-W Showdown - Southern B3 - 1st), so even with a reduction in volume last few weeks (other weekend plans) still going ok.

My 45th Birthday on Monday (wtf) and the other half has booked a holiday cottage stay in Manorbier... Wondered why it was nice and cheap this weekend (we've been before but usually later in the summer). Thought nothing of it, had heard there was road closures so asked me to investigate why... It's Long Course Wales weekend (based in Tenby - but lots of cycling & running around the roads West side where Manorbier is...) Haha, just a shame I found out late as there's a 42 mile sportive tomorrow could have been fun (although wouldn't have been popular deserting the family!). Hopefully still get into Tenby saturday afternoon and get to see some cool bikes... Have a Zwifty EVO friend who's competing so going to cheer - or catch him for a coffee/cake/ice cream afterwards if I can.

What’s everyone using for sunscreen? I’m getting way too much sun but the sweat is just going to make regular sunscreen run off.
Whatever is cheap at home, but always wearing a factor 20+ sometimes 50. Nothing less. My other half will wear a 10/15 and I'll occasionally put that on my arms before putting arm warmers on just in case I take them off. But any exposed bits get higher factor. I brown fairly slowly so takes me a while to get good tanlines. I go mad with freckles instead. But my mum being ginger & being fairly sparse of hair on top I've always got a hat on (summer hats under helmet), wearing big glasses (Jawbreakers) don't generally put it on my head, so don't get that sweat/cream mix in my eyes. Neck is the main thing to cover for me. If I get sunburned I go red and peel back to white. My other half easily turns a lovely brown with no effort. Very jealous.

That said, looking back, I actually enjoyed it. It was tough, but riding with a strong group really pushed me. My average speed ended up at 14.7 mph—higher than my previous ride—despite the longer distance and greater elevation.
Brilliant ride, yeah riding with stronger riders is a sure fire way to fitter & faster very quickly. If you keep doing it! ;)

Anyone recall my post about easing into rides and not rushing anything? Well today ended up being my longest ride at 105km which is about double anything I’ve done for months.
Brilliant ride & well done! Good to hear!

Do I do it inside on Zwift or do I chance it and go outside and risk something happening to me lol.
Do whatever you want, that's the 'easiest' to get it done. You don't have to commit, but it also doesn't have to be a big thing.

"Ride as much or as little, as long or as short as you feel. But ride."

Perfect, well done! Which side of Brizzle now? Should be quieter roads but lots more green space being a conservation area?!

Pretty similar here... I almost need a 'good summer' (like this year so far!) to get enough daylight/dry days to do a bunch of the house jobs AND have enough time to ride my bike. Without it one or the other doesn't happen (and the bike is mostly more important to me!). I've done more this year than last already, year before was even worse!

I'm nearly into year 4 of repointing & repainting the exterior of the house... Which got sidelined 2 weeks ago as now stripping wallpaper, paint & repairing walls in a bedroom instead. Was using a wallpaper steamer in 32 degree heat. Gah!

Yeah defo get yourself covered more. It isn't all the sun anyway, it's the time under that much UV. You get just as much on a cloudy day, but when riding almost worse in humidity as you'll not even have long layers on in the morning. Moving through the air you feel cooler so don't consider suncream early doors, but we all should.

I work in a plant nursery with people who work outside all day every day. Employer provides suncream. Melanoma (skin cancer from high UV) is fairly common in our whole industry and multiple people here have scars and bits of it.

To be honest it would only benefit me being wireless as one easier way to install it to the bike. I'd rather it not have batteries as I hate the way the SRAM ones look so chunky. Aesthetics always add a few watts.

Seeing how much K loves "my new big house" made it worth it instantly. Only thing that made me a bit sad was she was starting to make friends with the neighbours children and where we are now there doesn't seem to be as many but she starts school next year (WTF!!) so she has plenty of time to make friends there! Has a more buzzing social life than I do and she's only in nursery!

I definitely will do something. Even if it's just a boring, but safe, 50km on the cycle path.

We've now moved to Frenchay Village. Geographically we are on the same side of Bristol but we've technically moved to South Gloucestershire. We've moved from the Red to the Green.

It's weird. It's very much in a built up area but once you turn into the village it's like going back in time. Lots of manor houses and green spaces. It's like a cheat code living in the city!

If you look on the map once I cross the dual carriage way it's nothing but green and quite a nice ride to Chepstow and a few other bits. I haven't explored as much as I should've but looks like a lot of potential

In the process of turning my frankenbike electric.
Fitted the motor yesterday and never thought that moving from a 32T chainring to a 42T would need such a bigger chain.
I already had a brand new chain to use but never thought about size.

Came to fit it for a test ride and the 114 links were far too small. Just been driving around looking for a 138 links mtb chain.
Obviously this is Spain so my normal two shops are closed on a Saturday! Ended up in a place making bikepacking style steel bikes and feeling really old school. The kind of place where everything is reused or fixed rather than replaced.
Didn’t have a chain in stock but just used some chain offcuts they had from fitting chains which were too long to add to my existing chain.

138 links sounds massive!

If you have the quick links, especially if they're KMC, you could bodge a chain together using multiple links (using the old chain if necessary, just to get you going).

Well they gave me 20 links and I have 2 quick links.

138 might be too big but I wanted safety as 114 was way too small.

Guess 42t chainring and 44 cassette on an XL bike means a big chainn

I've used this calculator for years...

A 450mm chainstay with an oversized rear derailleur, combined with 42T chainring and 44T largest sprocket is rounded to 59 inches (118 links).

Cheers. Might try that another time.

Currently cursing how I’ve lost one side of a quick link when I had them both in my hand a second ago!

Motor fitted. Absolutely superb and much better than the Bafang I installed on my wife’s bike. Not as powerful but a lot more natural feeling. Amazing how heavy it is. Although it’s a comment for another thread!

Went out again today. Front tyre was completely flat which is started to be a concern.

Was fine on Thursday for 105km yet completely flat today. Pumped it up and it held air fine for 35km so if it is a puncture it must be tiny!

Trying to remember when I got the tyres fitted as I’ve not added any sealant since then.
Is there an issue with using different sealant? A LBS fitted the tyres and I don’t know what they used but I have a bottle of Muc Off stuff with a tube so assume I can pour t through the valve.

Side note but anyone seen the new valve Schwalbe have developed where the pump just clicks on. Looks pretty cool.

Yeah, I did a little research into it about a month or so back (as in, I watched a few YouTube videos and looked over a few websites) It wasn't entirely clear to me what I would be supposed to buy to convert from Presta and tbh, I don't really have a problem with Presta so just decided to not have the faff of it...

Ah I just saw a brief video on Chris Halls channel.

They seemed to use the tube from a presta valve but then unscrewed the valve top like you would to add sealant and then screw in the new click valve. Seemed a simple job to swap.

From the video I saw the primary appeal is for kids/less mechanically minded cyclists as it’s not always obvious how to inflate a presta valve and different pumps have different fittings whether it’s a lever or screw on etc. This takes the guesswork out of it.

Imagine most cyclists wouldn’t be switching though without a real push from the cycling industry.
