EV general discussion

Still having issues with the ID.7 and did have it booked in for today for investigation.

The dealer was supposed to book it in themselves, as I pointed out the issues on the day I collected it from “repair” last time, but they never did. I ended up having to call them.

Bear in mind the issues I’d had with the rubbish courtesy car last time, and that it’s the same dealer, I called them last week to confirm all was good and ask if they’d seen the videos I’d sent & investigated the issues ahead of time.

Nope.

And they had me booked into a 1L polo.

The car isn’t even big enough to do a trip I’ve got coming up, let alone an appropriate loan car for the 2 weeks+ they’ll have the ID for.

I know I probably sound quite arrogant and entitled, however it’s a £50k+ car which hasn’t worked properly since we got it Oct/Nov last year.

Alphabet couldn’t care less and the process for financial ombudsman is very slow.

I really don’t understand Tesla’s tbh. So much choice now and much nicer available. My friends reminds me of being at the dentist and the build quality is shocking. I think his has been back at least 5 times and still has the odd issue and the panel alignment tweaks my OCD every time I see it.

I think post 2022 after they're built in China rather than America panel gaps etc improved.

Anyways I've just put deposit down and should pick it up next week. Anyone use Ali express etc for accessories?

Partly musk no doubt but also the competition is bringing it.

I’ve owed two Tesla’s but I wouldn’t buy a 3rd in a world where you can lease an EV6 for near £100/month less or The much nicer Polestar 4 for £60 more.

In my view the refreshed Y is priced in no mans land currently.

That said it’s still number 1 in some markets like Norway where that single car made up 16% of the entire Norwegian market in May.

To name a few others:

Ford explore £200/month cheaper - sure the Y is a better car but is it £200 batter? Obviously not.

Renault Scenic £250/month cheaper, as above.

Travascan, £140/month cheaper

ID7, over £100/month cheaper.

bYD seal £200/month cheaper
Presume that's new? Yeah I think 25 ish k for my 2 yr old one is good but we'll find out if reliability is ok/bearable. Suppose used is a slightly different market to lease

Awful service that, who's the dealer?

Honestly? You sound like the most patient person on the planet.

I'd have been sent to the loony bin by now after parking it outside the local dealership and announcing through a megaphone why people shouldn't buy a VW :p

I really should have tried to get the various issues with the Astra resolved but it's just so fundamentally flawed in many areas I just can't be bothered and as it only costs me BIK per month in terms of running costs I just live with the paint issues, rattles and software glitches. It's cheap to run but I can't wait to be rid of it. Judging by how long we keep company cars... Only about 5 years to go :(

I’m looking at electric Astra’s at the moment. The Corsa has been great so far..

How come you can't get a report from VW after demoing the problems and then demand contract termination at alphabet;
are Alphabet&dealer miles away so you can't get in their face (I've found even a 40mile distant dealer intoduced weeks of delays snchronizing loner & problem analysis.)

Thinking about wether I want to reserve this one:

cool that they've adopted 3rd party battery certification aviloo, to spot any nuances of cell degradation

Alphabet would let me terminate, but the calculated money back was pittance, and I’d end up losing about £2000-£2500 which I can’t really afford to do at the moment.

Maybe my one is a lemon but I'm really not impressed. I was sent an IPSOS survey about my experience and as it was a slow day in the office I thought I'd fill it it. I came up with over 20 points I wasn't happy with from panel fit and paint to rattles to software issues.

I'd be devastated if I'd spent my own money on it, thankfully I spent my employers. Don't get me wrong, it operates fine as a car and in 6 months I've clocked up 14000 miles without any mechanical issues. Just that 13000 of those either the door or centre console was likely to have been buzzing like crazy.

I am picky though. When I pointed out the poor masking of the black roof a colleague couldn't even tell what my issue was. Neither did they register that the boot was offset so that it overhung slightly on one side and was slightly recessed on the other.

My Tesla owning colleague seems to be fine with the dash going blank and rebooting mid drive. I've had that once in the Astra and it isn't something I'll tolerate if it starts to become a regular occurrence. Other than that it's just stupid software bugs.

I’ve tried a few different ones. This one, Martins Farnham, have been the best.

Portsmouth took the car in before with a list of issues, gave it back the next day telling me they fixed everything with a software update :P

Including the windscreen wipers…
I do find VW dealers pretty complacent. Tons of middle class families just automatically giving them business so they barely have to work for it

Trying to decide if I want a "decorative" untethered EV charger or a less nice looking tethered one. It's between these 3 I think ;

Only you can decide on the aesthetics.
Personally, I never thought of an EV charger’s aesthetics. Function/usability comes first.

But I understand some people take a lot of pride in the appearance on their house way beyond my understanding.

Gonna be right by the front door so thought might as well try

Similar ish price so just thinking if I want tethered or untethered. Is untethered really that much more effort?

Personally I went tethered because I think having to unroll/roll up/pack away/store somewhere my charging cable every time I got home or left the house would get old really quickly.
Then again if you're only going to need to charge once a week or if you're not crawling out of the car after a two hour drive home from work after getting up at 4am it's less of an issue :D

Makes sense now to consider one of the chargers octopus promoting in the posted V2G publicity, that will allow firmware upgrade to support that.

Tethered every time, much more convenient, the problem is getting one that looks neat with the cable wound up.. this is primarily why I went with Hypervolt, much more compact/neat looking over a Zappi, much cheaper than an Anderson and can almost full hide it's cable (just the socket end showing) quite well..

Hypervolt have been very active developing all the main integrations with the energy companies, but they are slow upgrading us older hardware people to the latest software and no one knows what the future will bring.. A lot of installers like Hypervolt as well, although that can be a fad and things can change.
