I was looking at Andersen/Simpson but decided I wanted to make sure I could take advantage of the tarrifs with intelligent charging. No idea if it changed but Andersen was a no go, Simpson was going into administration at the time so I ruled that out.Trying to decide if I want a "decorative" untethered EV charger or a less nice looking tethered one. It's between these 3 I think ;

BYD is in the list in the OHME app, I just checked so surely the charger should be able to read the SOC on plug in? I know that app is flakey at times and I have had to re-register my Leaf several times for it to read the SOC. When it all works correctly I plug the charger in, it reads the SOC and schedules the charge times inline with my cheap rate overnight and I don't have to tap charge or anything. Surely this can be done with your BYD? I do have to approve the plug in in the app but that's all I normally need to do unless it throws a hissy fit which it seems to do after every couple of updates.As in on the Ohme app. I daresay it's possible to start an automatic charge to a set amount upon plugin. But clicking a button in the app is not particularly onerous.
I believe your referring to the capability between your car and your charger. Some chargers can talk to the cars from some manufacturers (to communicate the amount of charge needed) but not others. My car doesn't, so I tell it to charge, say 25%. The onus is on the manufacturer to provide the software to do this so I guess BYD will get round to it at some point.
I'd say it would be going a bit far to say pick a car based on the capability between the car and the charger.

Thanks I've gone for hypervault and getting a 10m tethered lead for it as driveway quite long.I was looking at Andersen/Simpson but decided I wanted to make sure I could take advantage of the tarrifs with intelligent charging. After discussions with the installer I ended up with an Ohme ePod. I charge about once a week so nice to have the cable tidy, out the way in the garage when not in use. It's been OK so far, no real issues and the mobile app is really easy to use. Currently don't regret my decision.
Don't forget to turn on your Union flag disco leds to really impress the neighboursThanks I've gone for hypervault and getting a 10m tethered lead for it as driveway quite long.

I guess we are just going to have the market flooded with cheap Chinese EVs, just like with all other consumer electronics![]()
