At what point do you say GPU's are too expensive and refuse to buy?

This 9070XT is the same cost as my AM5 platform upgrade I did last month (7800X3D-MSI MAG X670E-Corsair 6000MHzCL30 RAM)

That is the point I say GPU's are too expensive.

My 3060 Ti lives on a little longer but warranty ends next months :(

Don't worry your card won't suddenly die a death after the warranty has finished. Plenty of 1080ti's going strong 8 years after release

generally i never spent over £500 for a gpu, the 9070xt was just over that at msrp, but for the value at msrp i thought it was actually worth it. but im no spring chicken now after 40 plus yrs of gaming, i feel thats the limit, i point blank refuse to pay any more, and tbh im not one for what i see as selling gimmicks, we know what they are so wont go into that, just give me raw horsepower for raster and that will do this old fart :D

Kinda moved to laptops once kids arrived and didn't really go back to gaming. Picked up a couple of desktops with 1050ti for kids.. Finally upgraded to a couple of laptops with 2060 and a 3060 in lockdown. One desktop with 1050ti still in use.

I doubt I'd pay more I'm than 400 if I was to get back into gaming. One of the kids upgraded themselves to a 4060 laptop.

1070ti still going strong here, 7 years old. Not a spare system either, heavily used. Will only replace if it dies or when I feel like I'm not being bent over. Plenty of backlog to play still.

I feel the gpu market is completely out of touch with people's financial reality. But that's games pushing visuals.

I guess I'm no longer the market but many games are too demanding in hardware and complexity to be fun for me. Or two focused on pay2win not to feel I'm being played.

Half thinking of going back to Mini PC or Mac Mini just to down size and cut the cable clutter. My switch to gaming laptops seems increase the cable clutter once you use a large screen with them.

Is it though? Pretty sure Gibbo said they sold 1000 5090 last week and sales are massively up now they have plenty of stock.

As for visuals, most modern games run on pretty old hardware, just not with all the eye candy switched on.

I’ve seen used 2070 cards for as little as £100 and they’ll play all modern titles, including those handful that require RTX.

Yes it is, see LTT video, not as if 5090s are selling out is it.

Why do you think it’s good indicator for 5090’s to be selling out?

That isn’t normal to be sold out at this point of the product lifecycle.

It’s a commodity product with a limited lifecycle, being sold out means less sales of said product and less opportunities to sell them to customer who want them.

It’s well within Nvidia’s interests to keep them in stock as it drives wider sales and helps maintain their market dominance in both hardware and software features.

They have internal competing priorities with their AI division but the solution to that is to book more fab time with TMSC.

Nvidia also know the AI bubble will burst eventually so they will try to keep all the plates spinning and bully out AMD where possible.

In response to the OP/thread title/question, it's one of those things, like with the cost of premium fuel, where I don't even bother to look at the price anymore per litre, I just pay it, I want a car that isn't built for economy, so I pay for the more expensive fuel it requires...

I want a GPU that is overpriced, but want the ability to play at X settings/resolution, I pay the money - at worst you just save for another month or two, and bite your tongue, I don't agree with the modern pricing versus features, but I'd hate myself more if I cheapen out, as 2 months later and every month after that, I'll be more annoyed that I didn't buy X instead of Y...
It is what it is, we know we're being scammed.

People will upgrade, but they will leave it much longer between upgrades. Which could end up with GPU makers not really making any more profit in the end. Nvidia and AMD's main income isn't from GPUs anymore.

Stats show PC gaming is rising and overtaking consoles. But the majority of people are playing old games so don't even need a current GPU.
