i think it helps as it keeps the VUJ open and prevents issues of distal ureteric obstruction and backpressure buildup (which can cause infection and knock off kidney function, especially combined with all the antinflammatories you take because it is so sore!). An alternative to help stones pass when there isn't an obstructed kidney and the stone is likely to pass by itself is medication - tamsulosin - it works a bit but can give you a really dry mouth which isn't pleasant.If you have fragments at the lower end of your ureter, how will the stent help pass those? It runs from the kidney all the way into the bladder. I imagine they'll pop out once the stent is removed
rough guide re stones 0-5mm will pass on their own, 5-10mm should pass spontaneously but might need intervention, stones >10mm are unlikely to pass on their own and need urology input
