The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

Have you had a few Sony cameras in the past then? I never really considered Panasonic up until now. I was maybe going for a Sony a7 IV or Sony a7CR, (main use being photography). Is there any particular high res Panasonic camera you would suggest tking a look at?
I had an A7i, A7c, and FX30 previously.

The Panasonix G5ii is much better featured for the money, particularly when it comes to the video side. Sony gates features behind it's higher tier products unnecessarily, where as Panasonic keep adding new functionality to it's cameras over time. The G5 has had various significant AF improvements since launch.

I really like the G5ii, added the 50 1.8 and shot it a little at the weekend. It's nice.

I suspect in terms of capturing images most full frame cameras aren't that different these days, the variations will come in the camera handling, AF, lens ecosystem etc.

The G5 handling and menus is instantly better than any Sony I've used.

Picked this up on Faceache Marketplace the other day for £20. It is ridiculously clean for a 50 year old camera and the meter is still accurate. It's a bit fiddly to change shutter speeds and aperture with my sossig fingers, but I took it out for a spin the other day and ran a roll of Ultramax through it. Film is off to the lab today.

Also added this to the Fuji system...

My most modern flash before this is a Canon 430 EX II. Gotta say I'm really impressed with it.

Nice :)
I like the look of those old cameras.

Consider my willy waved this Friday afternoon:

Haven't had a chance to actually use it yet but I was very impressed with the unboxing experience - although I've never owned a Sigma Art lens before so maybe it's par for the course.
Keen to hear your thoughts once you've had a play.

I've just stepped into my first camera, ordered a Sony A6700 and was debating this lens or the 18-50 from Sigma. Decided to keep with my original plan of the 18-50 but keeping an eye on how people find this longer term. Please keep us updated with what you think :)

Finally got my hands on this little guy, the new tiny flash from Godox iT30 Pro (not sure what's pro about it? lol).

But it's great, it is both a trigger and reciever, it can therefore be my wireless flash setup, with the X100VI it makes a miniature package! (Leaf shutter too!)

It has a OLED touchscreen, a full METAL hotshoe (impressed) with 2 settings in narrow and wide.

Also got some spare batteries, all USB-C charging built in.

That’s a solid combo nice and compact and great iq on that sigma lens. Chuck a prime in there for low light and your golden.

I finally bit the bullet on the Acratech Panoramic head. Should be arriving within the next few days. Despite what Gavin Hardcastle might say about it- I kept running into too many situations with Parallax error:
Bit of a cheesy video:

How are you finding this? Your post peaked my curiosity so I've been looking at how this might actually work for me - I could get rid of my X2-T trigger for one thing.
Have you used it on any other setups? Being so close to the camera body I wonder how (physically) long a lens you could use before a shadow is cast?

I’ve not tried it properly other than “it works”.

I plan will be having both trigger and flash on me, it comes with a little drawstring bag that can fit both in. So it’s easily able to just hold the flash with my other hand further away from the camera to prevent any shadows.

I might actually get another one too.

Ps…all godoz flashes work with each other when in wireless mode. That so I can use my Sony mount V1 with this too. I just can’t put it on the Fuji camera itself.

So I'm only really getting a chance to come back about this now. I was on a family holiday from last Saturday which partly explains why I was so excited the lens arrived on Friday - I never expected to have it until I returned home today at the earliest.
Anyhow, I've had a few days messing about with it and I'm very happy with it. I wouldn't say I'm over the moon with it but perhaps my expectations were set too high.

Size/weight wise I would say it's very close to either the XF 90mm f2 or the Tamron 17-70mm - if that helps anyone who has experience of either of those.

Pros are that it renders beautifully in terms of subject sharpness, background falloff as well as colour and contrast. The colour & contrast impressed me the most as I have often found third party lenses fall short in this department compared to the native Fuji lenses - some only very slightly behind but behind nonetheless. This Sigma honestly looks like a native lens to my eyes.

The only real Con I have is that the corners are never tack sharp - although there are different ways of looking at this I guess. As a portrait lens, this will not be an issue and in fact adds to the creamy out of focus rendering. As a landscape lens, there probably are better options out there, the new XF 16-50 is one such option.
Comparing test shots between the two the Sigma is a hair sharper in the centre at wider apertures but once you get to f8 the 16-50 is actually sharper at the edges and corners. It's not a night and day difference but it's worth mentioning for those that value edge to edge sharpness at narrower apertures.

I may also have been spoiled by my GFX lenses which are just on a different planet when it comes to sharpness and resolution. On tempering my expectations for just APS-C the Sigma is excellent - just not quite a full 10/10 (for me).

This is HANDS DOWN the best £26 I have ever spent on a photography related stuff.

The image quality is like a phone from iPhone 1, these days, people pay a fortune for!!!

Sample photo, yes, it comes out as a square! It feels like I am back in 2010 with an iPhone 4 era ! It even does video but requires me to keep turning the winder (for the lolz? lol) so there is a lot of camera shake LOL

I recently was getting into cameras with my first one and Panasonic honestly seemed better especially for videos
for one they don't overheat so fast... seems fx30 is only sony option with a fan and it's 100% video focused pretty much? also all the big podcasters seem to use Panasonic

I went with
Sony A6700 +18-135mm and bought a 70-300mm to go with it.
Next I think I will look at sony 90mm macro lens for videos.

but I really wanted a Panasonic GH7 or considered the s5xii (yes I'm aware difference between full frame ,mft and aps-c and al 3 of those cameras arent the same type)
Only reason I went with sony is it seemed like lens are more budget friendly and a wider choice.

Panasonic definitely seem "better" for anyone who does a lot of filming.

I came across these a couple of months ago and they looked like a bit of fun for a gift and you seem to be have fun taking - and even more excitingly printing some pictures. I didn't see it anywhere near the price you paid and I couldn't justify it for a bit of fun but now I might have to get one to give one to my father at Christmas as the £30 mark is about right.

I just got a new lens cap to fit the top of my lenshood for this lens. I have never had a cap for it and the hood is very tough to take off so I thought that this is the best way to give the lens some protection.
