Vince's Repair Thread - (Console Repairs & Mods)

Vince, I've got a sticky RB because I got a small bit of squash on my Switch 2 pro controller lol.
Watched a teardown video, looks simple enough but the front cover is glued on and I'm not sure what kind of glue I'd need to get it back on (if any) or should I just heat the old glue up again before I replace the cover.

Cover removed at 9:20

Only one way to find out I bet it's just a bit of 3m if it isnt a bit of B7000 will 100% get it back together and looking normal. Chances are though you can probably just slap it back together and it will be just fine

Why people buy the pro controller when the King Kong 2 pro exists is beyond me it's not as nice as the king Kong, has inferior parts and sensors all while being more expensive. Get the king Kong, scrap the pro controller

Not heard of it before but looks decent. However, I bet just like the Switch OG Pro Controller, it can't be used to wake a Switch 2.

Thanks for the glue advice, was such a freak accident and it just happened to hit my controller

Ahh that makes sense they are letting the pro 2 wake the console - Honestly though the king kong is easily the most accurate pads ive ever used, less than 0.5% out in circularity which is crazy stuff

Never heard of them before but I'll keep an eye out to see if they do a S2 version and give it a go.

They have gulikit TMR's and Hall triggers and are calibrated amazingly well from factory better in fact than any pad I have ever seen bar none. Even put that PB tails pad to absolute shame in terms of accuracy!

I need to give you guys a little update at some point! Many things have come through and been fixed. Just finished 4x Series X consoles and loads of other stuff but been a bit busy with proper work to put some coherent posting together

My favourite all time handheld is the Nvidia Shield Portable, I've got two - one on the older firmware with all the exclusives still installed (Half Life 2 etc), and another i accidentally updated.

Do you get many cross your bench? How feasible would it be to update the charging port to USB-C? Maybe a battery upgrade?

Hell, maybe even a screen upgrade if such a thing is possible! I know it's a fairly niche console, so probably not something that's possible.

I am sure loads is possible you can 100% convert the shield to USB-C PD. I think the shield supply is 40w (19v x 2.1a) ish but yea there are plenty of people who have modded them to USB pd.

Aww man @EddScott Neo Geo AES turned up and ive turned into the Green eyed monster  I'll do a full write up on it but it would be rude not to do a full recap, full power overhaul, the works. It's one of my grails and ive just not found one thats worthy (havent looked that hard because they are big bucks) but this one is beautiful.

Have you all seen this video? Latest TronicsFix Video that's generated some buzz. Again some of that is the usual 'oh it must be the way you treat your controller/I've never had drift' crowd.

But the most interesting bit was this new custom joystick removing soldering iron tip. That's potentially going to make getting the old sticks out much quicker.

Not surprised by the "never had drift crowd". It's just fanboys for X company, that can do no wrong.
TBH I've never had drift, and I've never really worn out a controller other ways but have kept some for 10+ years. Still got my original PS2 pads!

But that doesn't mean I'll argue with the data, plenty of people get drift routinely.

Every single Xbox controller I've owned has stick drift to a degree, and that includes two elites, version one and two.

I've seen questions asked why Xbox, Sony and Nintendo don't use hall effect or better sticks and all the answers point to the money the majors make from users buying replacements.

Which is why I no longer will buy Microsoft pads, and instead buy the (much) cheaper pads from the likes of Gamesir, which use far superior tech.

I have two Cyclone 2 pads , complete with charging stand, TMR sticks, cost only around £34 pounds each and are a joy to use.

It's an interesting full circle really - around 2000, I had a £9.99 PS1 analog controller from Argos that was really cheap and nasty. It was always relegated to player two. So since then I've insisted on buying the branded console pads for hardware quality.

Even to the point when I wanted a handheld emulation machine I bought a PSP rather than something modern and Chinese, because of the quality of buttons, shell etc.

But now there seems to be more quality competition and some dissatisfaction with the main manufacturer hardware. I can't say I've had any issues with my last two controllers (XBOX 360 and XBOX One) which I've used for the majority of my PC gaming. Main beef is with USB connections, micro USB is not sturdy enough for a handheld controller.
