Im currently on the 1gb plan with Virgin and have one of there HUB 4's ive never really had a problem with it except for one thing and thats i cant get my smart bulbs or smart plugs to work with it.No big deal i hear you say but our household has 2 people with disabilities in it and being able to use the smart bulbs would be a big help.
I have tried everything that has been recommended on various forums with no luck and the general consensus seems to be run the hub in modem mode and get a router.
my PC and my Virgin box upstairs are both plugged into the HUB but everything else is done on WIFI.

The only gaming that is done is by my stepdaughter who has a Steam Deck and Nintendo Switch 2

I quite fancy the idea of a mesh system and have seen the Linksys Velop MX4200 Tri Band WIFI 6 system and i was just wondering if its any good or should i just go for the router most people suggest which is the ASUS RT-AX57 (AX3000)

Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated thanks

Where on earth did you read that?

If I was you I would get the MX4200 (or ISP branded equivalent SPNMX42) and separate the bands. See how coverage is first before looking into something more elegant.

Anyone who is suggesting an Asus anything is an idiot or a shill, it’s like telling you you need to go to a Diddy party with a fresh bottle of baby oil and a bottle of poppers, it’s widely known Asus are a garbage tier OEM in most market sections, sadly they pay decent money to shill for them and people who bought into the hype have a hard time accepting they were mislead no matter how many times Asus do really horrible stuff, so they still defend them.

The only issues I had with smart devices on VM was Wemo, it’s a dead ecosystem in all but name at this point, and I could coax it back to life by splitting the SSID’s, but the app was useless. What brands of IoT devices are we discussing? Does the native app work?

Router wise I would be looking at the Flint 2 personally, not much under £100 comes close unless you want to flash WRT onto something else like the EX5601. You could always split the wifi and go Deco, its a limited system, but it tends to work and is simple/expandable and long proven support at this point as TPL have kept generation after generation usable.

Or if they're feeling adventurous, enter the world of Ubiquiti

That's a very decent shout as well, the newer home orientated stuff is pretty good value if you just want a single device at gigabit speeds, the problem is once you get a taste, it's easy for that to turn into a habit, and the UX for example while cheap up front lacks extra LAN ports, and it's only gigabit. Pretty soon you've talked yourself into the UX7 and additional switch or Fiber and an AP or two :D and either way, you end up at twice the price of a Flint 2 if you're lucky.

Yeah that's is very true. Haha.

I wanted to like the flint 2 when I had it, but it just felt inconsistent and a bit unreliable, speed wise.
