BMW and M Power Owners

Isnt the fan supposed to kick in when your in a long period of stop start traffic?
How do you know it didn't? Just because you don't audibly hear it speed up doesn't mean that it isn't doing it's job.

I have had BMW's in the past where the fan doesnt seem to work and in hot weather it would be really down on power epecially after being in traffic
Sounds like you are looking for a problem based on your past experiences.

In this weather power is going to be down regardless - hot air is less dense. As above heat soak is going to be a thing - if you've been stuck in traffic for a while - a few minutes out of traffic isn't going to magically make all that heat disappear.

A 420d doesn't have much in terms of power anyway. :p
It does have abit yes.

This is power reduction. It strugggled over 2000 rpm if that helps nail it down?

Wasn't in as much traffic today. But coolant temp was going between 92 and 98oc probably was abit hotter yesterday and I was in traffic for a longer period of time.

Sytner BMW say they could take a look to see if there is anything of concern .the only thing is though it would only happen if it's been stopped in traffic for 20 mins on a hot day . Very sluggy anything over 2000 rpm

Dude I really think you're exaggerating here. You spent 6 months looking for the perfect (run-of-the-mill) car and then spend every moment worrying about what's going wrong and what will break next. Just ******* drive it and enjoy it

What's everyone's oil temp like in this heat? Just did a 65-75mph hour long run in ambient weather of 26'C and my oil temp was sitting around 110'C. Usually it sits around 90 or so and rarely moves but recently it's been edging up.

I dread to imagine.. I just did Surrey to Huddersfield and back in a day at an average of about 80mph.. limiter set to 95.

It's probably boiling :)

Apparently Sports+ activates the oil cooler, so I usually run the M2 in that to keep the oil temps down in normal weather (90-100C), let alone this heat.
Maybe it's placebo, but I reckon DSC off keeps the oil temps it down even further.

I find this annoying, as cruise control only works in Comfort or Sport settings, which means even normal motorway cruising makes the oil temps rise to over 110. The car runs hot, and I'm sure it's fine, but not a fan of boiling the oil every day considering a service is every 18 months with my usage..

No idea what the actual temp is, or if iDrive is lying to me, but the needle was stuck to the middle of the gauge like glue on a ~50 mile run this afternoon.

I'll cancel the booking then.
if you've already booked it, and they're not charging you the cost of diagnosis then you might as well go, if only for your peace of mind (god knows you need a lot of it  )
just don't be surprised if everything turns out normal

on the other hand, if you're paying...i'd cancel the booking

My coolant temps today through the odb were around

94-98

I didn't check it yesterday although yesterday was when I was in worse traffic

What engine? Newer engines like the B58 do run hotter 110-120 is pretty normal for oil and 90-100c coolant temps. I use to wait until the M140i hit 104-105c before I gave it some beans.

The M340i is exactly the same. 130c+ oil or 115c+ coolant temp is when it's getting a bit too hot.

Its a 2018 BMW 420D so would be B47 D20 A i believe

Ok, in this case i dont think there is any point in taking it to them to check? although i had already phoned up now. It was a little concerning it felt a bit flat after 2000rpm though on one of the days when it was hot after being stuck in traffic

90-100c for coolant and 110-120c for oil temps is perfectly normal.
