The video of Ben Askren talking after his double lung transplant is properly shocking, looksand sounds like a different person

Jake Paul demands rematch!Yep. These type of illness are awful for anyone but it seems to hit home harder when you see what it does to someone who was once so fit and strong.
He gets stopped because the only way he's escaping a pounding is by cheating and pulling his way up the fence. Can't very well stop the fight and deduct a point and give him time to recover, would be totally unfair.Anyone watch that? Horrible stoppage. No comment from the pundits cos USA!! Wasn't knocked out, was getting to his feet, and threw a punch as ref stopped it. Embarrasing.
The only reason he wasn't knocked out is because he cheated to get to his feet which is probably what the ref saw, excellent stoppage imo.Yeah that didn't help his case. He was knocked over for sure, but not knocked out. He deserved to continue imo. Perhaps the ref saw something else.
So he's rocked, uses fence to pull himself up whilst getting punched and you expect the ref to step in, give him time to breathe and understand the ref is going to take a point. It might not be fair, but a point deduction would have been more appropriate,

To then resume fighting and Derrick in this case loses his advantage because of an illegal move?
Ref made the right call, if you cant get back to your feet legally (again this is not one fence grab but multiple) why should you then be given at advantageous recovery time?
Ref's cant take a point whilst in positions, they have to stop the clock and announce a removal of a point to the judges.
Yes I would expect him to take a point. It wasn't stopped as a DQ or for the act of grabbing the fence. It was stopped as a TKO, which it wasn't.
How do you know how it would have played out if he hadn't pulled himself up? You can't stop a fight because he 'probably' wouldn't have been defending himself.Well, it effectively was because if he wasn't pulling himself up by the fence, he's staying on the mat, with his back given up, eating repeated shots to the head with zero intelligent defence.
How do you know how it would have played out if he hadn't pulled himself up?
I disagree.Because that's how it was playing out and there was nothing to suggest he was doing anything to change that until he started grabbing the cage to pull himself up. If the cage wasn't there for him to grab, the TKO would have been called anyway in a matter of moments. Or he'd have ended up with serious brain damage, one or the other.
Yup you are 100% right and after my initial "wtf" moment I then reflected for a minute and came to this inevitable conclusion. The fence grab and climb was so heavy and blatant that there was no way he was getting up without it and the dude was a mess and clearly heavily stunned when the ref stopped the fight. If the ref had of not stopped it and properly penalized for the fence grab then then the dude would have been reset to the ground and Lewis would have smashed him, but he was in no fit state to continue at the time of the stoppage.Because that's how it was playing out and there was nothing to suggest he was doing anything to change that until he started grabbing the cage to pull himself up. He emptied the gas taken trying to finish De Ridder. We all love Rob but lets face it, he's no longer championship material and a another title run was not realistic. If I was him I would retire very soon while I still have my health and before he tarnishes his legacy. Pretty sure he could make money purely from streaming. What a weird performance from Robert Whittaker, its like his grappling defence after 1 round sucked his entire cardio for the rest of the fight. Had it 2 each heading into r5 but weird to see the former ufc champ not do anything much in round 5.
