BMW and M Power Owners

Unsure if this is the Mini thread too..... here goes.

Going to look at a JCW Clubman next week at my local dealer. 2019 and the 306(?) HP All4 Model.

Interested if anyone on here has one. I've already been tipped off about how easily wing mirrors are stolen and about the software patch for full screen apple carplay.
There's a dedicated mini thread here somewhere...

Couple of quick questions for anyone who can offer advice please:

1. iDrive 6, Apple CarPlay, how easy is it to code in full screen? Dealer saying iDrive needs to be updated to 7.0 and then coded in, which is circa £300. Owners groups saying you can do it yourself without updating iDrive, all you need is a laptop, cable and code from eBay for £30.

2. Replacing a rear window seal/trim on a 3 door car due to damage/rubbing, expensive/big job? Presumably the window has to come out. See below:

Thanks.

It depends on the specific software version. Some can be activated over USB and others can be done via a laptop and enet cable. Only split screen can be activated via USB. Full screen requires a laptop and enet cable.

NBT EVO Version N onwards supports full screen. If you're not on N you will need to upgrade iDrive using Esys, or get someone to do it for you.

Wherever you buy CarPlay activation from, they will all use Feature Installer, so just buy from whoever is the cheapest.

Thank you for the help.

It baffles me that it wasn't full screen by design!

What a relief. I found the locking wheel nut key. It was in the boot in a lift up compartment I didn’t notice lol. Kwik fit fitted my 2 front tyres. I can’t believe how much better the front end feels compared to the runflats.. I can’t wait to get rid of the rears now but they have plenty of tread left.

I spoke to BMW about my shock absorbers and asked aren’t they supposed to be covered under warranty and he said yes. But they won’t replace them until they fail as it’s only an amber warning on my vehicle health check. So I will just wait until it needs doing.

Phew :)

Happy to help!

OEM headunits are always quite far behind the features and functionality curve. Not sure why.

Let us know how you get on. PM me if you're near South Wales and your iDrive needs updating. I can do that for you.

Apple CarPlay is activated via FSC Codes, on some older units you've to update the iDrive and in some cases you might need to change some values using Esys to get fullscreen CarPlay.

Update iDrive or upgrade to a new version i.e. 6 > 7? Presumably the former?

What's relevant is the specific software version of 5/6/7 that you are running. You can check this in the software version menu in iDrive.

FSC codes are available via main dealers (from BMW) or from third parties using Feature Installer (product of Bimmer Portal). The FSC codes are tied to your VIN. There is no way to avoid the cost of the FSC codes, and the base cost by FI is £45. Anything on top is the third party's cut. Codes from a Feature Installer reseller are much cheaper than a main dealer and the obvious choice if cost is a factor.

You can try to enable full screen via Esys but this doesn't always work. Using Feature Installer, it always works.

I have done this many times but it has been a while since I did the last one.

Edit: you may need to get a WLAN antenna. Check if your car came with one. You have to remove the headunit to install one if you do need it. That said, it can work without an external antenna, but the range is *****.

are installation of those by a 3rd /non-bmw party invalidating any of bmw's extended warranty requirement - least a ways putting in incorrectly encoded antenna module, if that were needed, does.

Don't know the answer to that one... Probably invalidates the headunit warranty if they find the non-BMW codes.

The external antenna doesn't require any coding. To avoid warranty issues with absolute certainty, you could buy and fit the OEM antenna. It is outrageously more expensive. I think it's about £40 and third party antennas are £5-10.

does anyone bother with the connected package subscription? Just had a thing on my app to say mine will run out next week and they want £120 for a year, I guess I must have had a few months free when I bought the car.

I got it on my M140 when I got the car last month as the maps were out of date. It's nice seeing the weather etc but not sure I'd pay for it again, especially as I just use android auto for everything now.

How did you get AA on your M140? Guessing some sort of aftermarket solution?

do you have to have an active subscription for the maps, like you I use AA so probably not worth it. I do like to have the functionality of remotely checking if I've locked the car etc, I guess that connectivity will cease without the sub?

The BMW remote services, Connected drive services and Teleservices have lifetime activations on my car for some reason.

I'm new to BMWs so not sure if this is normal or not but they all worked before I purchased the Connected Package Professional which I believe allows the weather, news, map updates and real time traffic alerts etc. I was under the impression that allowed Spotify but it looks like BMW removed this for some reason.

I then gave up and just got an MMI box which is so much better.

Ah I see, so perhaps the connected drive stuff will keep stay working . If its only things like weather, traffic, news etc. its really not worth 120 of my hard earned
