Foundation - TV Series (2021)

The empire stuff is awesome lol
The CGI is beautiful for TV.
The acting is 75% completely cringe straight out of acting school nonsense. Seriously just skip certain scenes with certain characters that are imo awful.

It pays lip service to the books in character only and uses ideas here and there to keep it on track but a lot of its padding.

Good opening episode.

Pacing was good, lots of empire which always lends to a good episode. Sets up the story arc for the season nicely.

Fantastic CGI.

Couple of new actors... who are terrible... but that has been the case through all 3 seasons.

Seems people think what I thought. Empire arc is good and interesting. I think carries the show. Visuals are nice. The rest has Emmerdale or similar levels of acting. Overall I enjoy watching it.

I'm hoping a certain two individuals from the previous season are not in this season. Just awful acting.

Just started this, nearing the end of S1. Had on. Had this on my watch list for a while, can’t believe I’ve left it this long, it is a brilliant show.

Another addition to the greatest sci-fi moments in TV history, easily ranks in my top 5 alongside Adama's "Jump" sequence in BSG:

I've been a little ambivalent on Foundation so far. The first series didn't really land with me, all far too stern and serious over what is a frankly daft central concept. Second series kinda meandered around a bit with some good sections but didn't really come together....the first couple of S3 feels a bit like all the threads starting to converge and the story arcs can move along without so much deviation and backfilling of stuff.

Having a simple big bad gives it a bit more focus, which is a good thing imo.

I've been trying to read the books, subject to our local library which doesn't seem to stock them all, finished Second Foundation (which is kind of the background to the current season) a couple of weeks ago.

Part of the problem with the books is that some of the later (sequentially) parts of the story (Second... )were actually written 40 years prior to the earlier sections such as Prelude... (which I actually enjoyed the most). So not only did the understanding of science in the real world evolve from 50's "Robbie The Robot" school of thought but then a further 30 years before adaptation to a screenplay. Thus I don't really blame the screen writers for essentially taking the concept and doing their own thing.

However, there are a few elements where IMHO they should have stayed a wee bit closer to the books, in spoilers to avoid, erm, spoiling the books...
First by the time of Second Foundation, the Empire had already collapsed and was not clinging on by a thread ruled by increasingly unstable Cleons. In fact the whole Cleon Dawn, day, Dusk was never in the books at all.
In the book, the "Mule" is portrayed as a mutant and while he does have considerable psionic powers he is not by any means a savage brutish pirate.
Second Foundation is a series of linked short stories and by the middle the Mule has been neutralised. The influence of the Second Foundation is also far more widespread than anyone knows or thinks.
Demurzel (sp) is long gone. In fact most of Trantor is in ruins though there is a delicious twist right at the end.

i always thought she was just a reference to the previous robots that where pre foundation but really the architects of pyscohistory for harry to actually publish it so to speak. It's been a long time since I listened to all the books maybe I'll try again.

If you don't mind second hand, you can get each of the books on Amazon for a couple of quid a pop if you look.

I am still enjoying it and Lee Pace has to get some kind of accolade at some point for his performance as Empire. The guy is just incredible.

Yeah though all the actors for Day, Dawn and Dusk do an incredible job, shame some of the rest of the show isn't up to the same standard.

Am I the only one that's finding it difficult to follow this show?. New characters just pop out and half the time l am left bewildered how we got here thinking did I miss half the story?? I must be not paying enough attention.?!

Is the show doing a good representation of the book?
