Air India Crash

RAT was deployed after both cutoff switches were moved to CUTOFF which rules out electrical malfunction I think.. It was the engines being turned off which caused the RAT to deploy. both fuel switches were manually moved to CUTOFF by the pilot within 1 sec of each other at the worst phase of flight for the engines to lose power.

Yes, this has been said literally dozens of times within the thread.

Pilot error?

How on earth do you draw that conclusion from that post? If anything, it says the opposite by saying it wasn't mechanical or inadvertent moment. The implication is that it was deliberate.

An non-inadvertent action can still be an error. Inadvertent simply means without prior intention.

I don't understand. If it is suicide, then why take out all those innocent passengers and crew?

As shown by the preliminary report, you can make it seem like an accident - life insurance etc wouldn’t pay out otherwise.

I hope to god this isn’t what happened though.

Not really, life insurance policies usually pay out for suicides after an exclusion period, normally 12 months from taking out the policy. It'd be more likely to have an exclusion for death resulting from piloting an aircraft than an exclusion for suicide.

Add that to the list of things I’ve said without googling first. I always assumed companies would take any excuse not to pay out, with suicide being the main one!
