EV general discussion

Well - here it is, the car no one knew they wanted, until they didn't have it:

Yawn....

The electrification of heat will mean that 710gwh number will grow rapidly in future years when excluding EVs.

But many people will also end up with solar & battery storage as part of that transition.

While solar is obviously not as much use in winter (when more heat is required) meaning total usage will definitely increase, charging of batteries overnight will mean that peak demand won't increase anywhere near as much.

The modelling included assumptions for a much higher penetration of domestic solar and batteries.

One of the scenarios they are looking at includes 40gw of V2G via a demand flexibility service to bring that 150gw peak demand down. They are also relying on people turning off the heat pumps over peak times for another 20gw as part of a demand flexibility service.

Good spot, Macan EV Turbo with all pretty much no holes barred on the options list.

A subtle, yet important difference.

One of the lads at work has just ordered a Maserati Grecale Folgore, certainly not my cup of tea, but not one i had come across before, if he'd ordered the GranTurismo i might have been a bit more excited though the infotainment system on both looks pretty dire.

Had my 2019 Model 3 serviced by Cleevely on Monday. Generally very happy with the condition with no issues on the brakes (the pins can often be a pain to get out / off) and only a couple of bits need sorting on the rear suspension - standard maintenance items. From lower control arms will need looking at next year based on our mileage but otherwise all good. :)

Can't fault the service provided as I was taken through everything looked at and done in person with the items mentioned above both highlighted and shown in the report received afterwards. Just need to book in the rear suspension work now and sorted until next year.

Had a moment yesterday morning en route to work where the near side rear tyre was reading at 23PSI. Couldn't spot a puncture anywhere but managed to drop it into our local tyre garage and was quickly identified as a slightly loose valve stem (possibly occurred when the wheels were removed during servicing but likely a coincidence). Know what to look out for now (typical benefit of hindsight of something being obvious but in the moment you don't factor in the simplest of scenarios...) :)

in a completely separate note I am just waiting for order confirmation on a cheap Leapmotor C10 lease. 6/23 with £178 a month & 8k miles. Not the cheapest possible but some of the cheaper ones (on the immediate offer) did not have a 8k mileage option (only 5k and excess mileage charge which equated to equal or more than the monthly uplift for 8k miles once the T&C's had been read).

By all intents its a average SUV EV with a 69.9kWh battery, ~265 mile WLTP range and 218BHP. Most reviews highlight the relatively slow DC charging (up to 84kW), and lack of CarPlay/AA in the current software stack (mixed rumors on whether it will added). In our case the former is not an issue as it will be AC charged for the majority of its use and the latter is something we are used to with the Tesla (plus it has the Spotify app anyway).

One of those things which becomes even easier to overlook once the cost is factored in. We ran the numbers and it works out to be ~£200 a month including insurance or a little over 6k (inc insurance) all in for the two years.

Just want it for general commuting transport and load lugger. :)

Very nice Macan. I'd considered one of those, but lost the will to live with the options choices (short of just ticking everything...), just checked the NHS fleet site and it takes 4 scrolls of the mouse wheel on the interior and exterior options list! :D

Yes, the level of personalisation now is crazy.
I would get stuck at - sun visor stitching colour, or, the model badge colour & then the finish gloss or matt, and how does that all contrast with the Porsche logo colour options on the wheel hub caps.

I mean really !
