*** Official Ubiquiti Discussion Thread ***

Have searched the thread with no luck, wondering if any of you more experienced Unifiers might be able to help me with firewall rules.

Sadly the commander in chief wants an Alexa, and worse, wants to be able to connect it to our sonos system (and whatever system we replace it with in the not to distant future). Normally I'd stick anything like this on its own vlan and ignore it, but the Sonos is on the same network as our mobiles for controller purposes, so I am wondering how I can isolate the alexa from absolutely everything, except for one sonos device so that it can control the sonos. Or if its even possible.

As far as I know they don't talk directly across your network so it's not an issue.
I have all my smart stuff on an IOT VLAN fully isolated but with internet access. Everything still works.

With Sonos? The controller needs to be on the same VLAN as the speakers. With that said, it's possible to have them separate, there's a few YT guides on it. But yeah, generally things talk to the public API for the devices, rather than directly.

Yeah thats the problem I'm trying to get my head around - having the sonos speakers on the same network as our mobile phones, but not the alexa.

I could be wrong, but it might be that Alexa > Sonos doesn't go via local network.

I'm thinking it could be similar to when I want to play Spotify through my Sonos from within the Spotify App, I think it goes via public stuff to do that not directly over my local network.

Could be wrong though!

(just thinking about when my wife has had a spotify session on one of the Sonos devices and then leaves the house, and still been able to control what's being played).

The Junction Utility arrived today, which is the last bit I needed for the shed after upgrading it from the Flex setup.

I have included a USW-Flex-2.5G-8 for scale.

Just installed UniFiOS for one of our sites, working well so far. Always was a pain having to manually update the self hosted installs, now its really easy through the mobile app.

So, Whilst being abroad and wanting to VPN into my home network it looks like my ageing USG-3p is a dinosaur, So i've caught the upgrade bug.
Having Virgin Business 1gb what are my upgrade options.
UDM pro (MAX)?
Would I benefit from this new Fibre router ??

UCG Ultra is the closest to USG-3P, but with the added benefit of the controller being on-board. You won't benefit from the Fibre except for added future proofing if you ever upgrade to more than a Gb internet connection, or you have a use for the added functionality, such as Unifi Protect, 2.5Gb Ethernet, etc.

VM 1 Gb gets about 1.3 Gb so a 2.5 Gb WAN port will be nice.

UDR7 has been plagued with a few issues, also OP doesn't need WiFi I assume since they're running a USG3.
I have the original capsule shaped Dream Router (UDR). Do you think either the Dream Router 7 or the unifi Express would be a good replacement in terms of a bit better wifi coverage?

I don't think replacing an AP with another like for like is going to drastically change coverage, the clients still have to communicate back. Personally I would focus on getting an AP mounted centrally and high up, ie on the upstairs landing before 'upgrading' a box like for like.
