BMW and M Power Owners

Looks good, don’t think your number plate looks legal ;):p

On auto hold, you shouldn’t have to positively push the brake pedal down, it should come on when you stop unless it’s model specific

Na I was told by sales guy on the test drive you have to press brake down, and I've driven it enough now it won't hold without pressing down a lot.

Wondered if any of you guys could help im actually not to happy with the dealer. He has apologised to me but this should be stated from the off. As above with my car that I bought used approved from BMW they sold me the car which comes with aftermarket parts only cosmetic which is front splitter, rear diffuser, and spoiler. Only thing that has a tag the rear diffuser which is Maxton design.

I asked if the car was standard when I bought it he said yes, only he said now on the phone today that he meant mechanical wise.

Obviously maybe to some people here, that insurance have said if the car has changed from factory we must know. I have confirmed that the only changes from factory are these three things. This has now cost me another £280 on car insurance.

It's lucky that I noticed this, maybe if I was a total car enthusiast I would know and probably would have picked it up on look around the car.

I said this should be stated to people purchasing if it not from factory, but anyway my insurance asked if classes as bodykit I said yes and confirmed it was a bodykit with the sales guy at BMW.

I wouldn't call diffuser, splitter and a spoiler a body kit, but I guess it's down to the insurance companies terms. In either case, yes I would be raging at the dealership that they didn't disclose that the car is modified, especially if you directly asked them. I wouldn't let that one drop. I'm assuming you're still within your cooling off period to reject the car for any reason, so use it to your benefit in any negotiations you have with them, even if you fully intend to keep the car.

I'd be more worried about any other modifications e.g. remap etc that you can't see

I assume you've opened the bonnet and checked against a standard picture e.g. for cold air intake / aftermarket air filter etc, aftermarket suspension parts etc.

Don't take the dealers word for it as sounds like they don't have a clue

Try to only communicate in writing. If you do have a call, follow-up with an email confirming what was discussed.

If you really don't want a modified car, reject it and tell them to collect it from you. Speak to the finance company, too, (if it's financed) as they will be very interested in knowing if the car is modified.

You raise some good points I really didn't expect this from a BMW main dealer, it's a Sytner dealer.

But apart from these 3 mods I have it in writing that the car hasn't any engine mods etc only change is cosmetic it states in email he sent me that BMW wouldn't accept it if this was the case. Also states the car is covered with these on under the 12 months months warranty in there to.

This is the thing I havnt a clue about individual modifications, but I think issue will be with suspension and finding that out. I'll need to do a comparison of all that I did look it looked standard to me but I didn't think about getting a photo.

Ye purchased on 31st July so well within the cooling off. I think its crazy that a main BMW dealer can do this and sell a used car with modified parts even if they are cosmetic.

It's a headache with the declaring modifications as agents on phone don't know what the parts are. I had guy asking "what a diffuser" I said can you just Google it on images, then asked about what a splitter etc. I think he then settled on bodykit. But I did state these are the three things changed as I had it confirmed by BMW and we settled on bodykit. The agent stated I'm not car enthusiast so I don't know in reference to modifications, how are people suppose to declare stuff?

Thing is I do like the mods however it's cost me another £280 on insurance, I have also asked for the advert again from Autotrader as it didn't state about aftermarket parts, so I can double check I didn't make an error.

I think best case scenario is asking for difference in Insurance cost and maybe free service for goodwill.

However Im going to have independent BMW specialist look at the car on Monday hopefully, and see if they can spot anymore changes. As stated above god knows what other stuff been changed.

How BMW dealer selling cars with aftermarket parts are they even allowed to do that, I didn't think they was hence why I've been fooled, lesson learnt.

To add I currently have BMW driveaway insurance with this car for a few more days.

In the eyes of insurance companies, are genuine M performance carbon parts purchased and installed by the main dealer classified as mods?

I never declared them on my F87 or G87. I’ve kept all my invoices from BMW, should I ever need to make an insurance claim:p

Does anyone have BMW used approved warranty and do you take your BMW to say a specialist instead of the main dealer?

I dont really want to end up with main dealer costs but If I have to because its under warranty Ill suck it up.

I take it having an inspection from say a BMW specialist would be fine?

You can take it to any VAT registered garage as long as the correct spec parts have been used. Get a receipt. I usually buy all my own stuff and get BMW to do but recently saved over 300quid and got my specialist to do it instead.

Is the issue currently that your insurance is higher as you've had to declare some aftermarket bodykit parts?

If this specialist is just looking at the car to check for modifications, BMW won't ever know about it. Unless they're plugging in and making any adjustments - but I'd avoid anything like that for now.

I've had a situation a few years ago where I'd agreed to buy a nearly-new M2 Competition, and then I was informed (by accident) that it had aftermarket suspension. The salesman was tying himself up in knots trying to explain how the warranty would work, and I ultimately cancelled the deal. BMW Warranty are not going to be replacing non-BMW parts. However, that is more of a mechanical thing, a few bodykit parts shouldn't affect anything under warranty.

Well im still not happy that the dealer didnt disclose the aftermarket parts on sale, but that a separate issue but its more that I want to find out if the car been remapped etc (even if it was reset for sale), I believe this BMW specialist will be able to find out but Ill know more tomorrow on that.

Hopefully it hasnt as I like the car, I do like the mods and have sorted the insurance although its hiked, im also generally want to know for piece of mind that the car is 100% fine (visual inspection of the cars parts will be a bonus to) I know I have it in an email from sales exec that they wouldnt sell a car that has engine changed etc but I have read on Pistonheads etc this has happened to people buying used BMW.

Ive posted on the owners forum on Facebook and been told it looks standard under the bonnet visually, but maps etc will only show up on the systems from what Ive read.

Depending on year, I thought you had to get the ECU modified to be able to remap the car and if you did that then it sets a flag that the car has been has been tampered with, so it would be pretty obvious. There are also plug in modules that connect to the ODB port which I presume are undetectable if you reset and unplug it?
