5 best looking aeroplanes

when I was a kid, I had super planes top trumps and it was the best thing ever

When I was young lad in the 80's me & my dad did airfix models. My Dad would paint them properly after we built them & I'd hang them from my bedroom ceiling.
The F14 Tomcat was always my favourite.
It's quite a cherished memory from my youth.

Foe me it is
Vulcan
TSR2
XB-70
any late Spitfire
A-10 (only kidding)

I'm still deaf from the last time I got buzzed by a Vulcan. They always struck me as rather cumbersome in real life, but they are truly earth shattering. Especially when they are doing their unique copy of a harrier sixty feet over your head.

Spitfires are just so cute, close up.

The TSR2 was a remarkable aircraft that I never saw!

We were brilliant at making aircraft. Idiot government.

I think all my favourites have already been mentioned.

747-400
747-400ER
747-400F
747-300
747-200

And an honourable mention to the 747-800

I'm surprised nobody has posted the Blackburn Buccaneer.

I remember seeing these at the Yeovilton airshow back when I was a nipper. I recall it being incredibly loud.

As an aside, there hasn't been a Yeovilton airshow since 2019 and there are no plans to resurrect it. Shame as it was very popular. I see Bournemouth, another favourite, has also been canned.

Always loved Tornados, Harriers, Vulcans, F15/16's, I think in part because these are what I was seeing growing up.

Have to agree with the Vulcan.
We (wife) were driving towards Kings Heath park in Brum when wife said what's the noise ?- couldn't see anything for a second or two and then nose of a Vulcan came into view on windsceen from behind, he then sort of sat down on bonnet and hit the throttle. It is one of the never to forget things that has happened to us.
2nd was standing in slip road at Santa Pod where we saw our first big block V8 (1972 again)-That engine made your chest vibrate.
Good old days.

This is by no means a good looking plane, but if you are of an age to remember the opening titles to The Six Million Dollar Man TV 70's series then you'll be familiar with this "plane". I was always fascinated with it in the TV opening titles, even at like 7 years old I was like, what the hell is that, of course that flying bucket was going to crash, what were they thinking etc. So it is noteworthy to me just for that.

Behold the Northrop M2-F2 Lifting Body test plane, and the actual remains of the real crash.

Side note, six million dollars would probably buy you half a bionic toenail these days.
