Star Trek : Strange New Worlds

It was a silly episode but I got some enjoyment from it. Their little 'homage' to TOS was quite funny and Paul Wesley did a great impression of Shatner and the 60s styled sets, music and effects made it work.

Its an episode not to be taken too seriously for sure.

Episode 4, it's a no from me, watched the intro, skipped title credits, saw what they had planned, skipped to star explosion, turned off

Yes. It reminded me of the Henry the Eighth song. "Second verse, same as the first".

Yeah, it was terrible. And Star Trek used to at least try to incorporate known science, but that neutron star story was ridiculous. They are incredibly dangerous. Even the Enterprise could not get close enough that it was actually visible, let alone fills half the view screen.

16mins in and yeah, this isn't my thing. I don't mind 'writers on drugs' episodes ala Supernatural's many fun episodes but these ones just aren't that imo.

Edit: lmao @ outtakes

I panicked when I watched the intro thinking this was a whole episode of The Last Frontier! Thankfully it wasn't.

It was a fun episode, we've have had full episodes of holodeck stories before. However, I'm a bit fed up of quirky SNW episodes, especially on a limited number of episodes compared to TOS, TNG etc. SNW is good when they're out saving the galaxy.

Episode 4 - watched 3 minutes and turned off. I see some of you have enjoyed it so fair play but I get the impression that most of this series episodes are indulging the writers desire to be quirky rather than what the viewers might wish to watch as part of an ongoing storyline development. For me thats a 50% dud rate this season

To me, with only 8 episodes per season, they haven't developed the characters enough to get in to relationships, yet that's all they seem to be doing.

Ep4, what a load of old tosh. They have flushed the whole concept of "Strange New Worlds" down the toilet. This could have been a much darker Trek, literally going out into the genuine unknown every week and some genuine peril. Think I'll go and watch The Foundation now instead, take the taste away!

even i was disappointed, just a rehash of a TNG one, using tech that shouldn't be about for a hundred years, only 2 highlight was you'r man doing shatner at the start and the Riker move at the end

To be fair the animated series did feature a holographic rec room on the ship occasionally. Though the tech in the episode was too advanced. But at least they showed why it wasn't used or installed on ships until much later.

I think that's the most disappointing thing. "Strange New Worlds". The hint is in the name. Now they seem to be filling in with cheap episodes.

while i didn't hate it, it was just a typical holodeck story. Maybe their remit at the shows origin meetings was just to be a little more "quirky" than the other series's's's, If there was a shining light , it was the Riker Maneouver :D

Jonathan Frake's directed the episode, so guess he wanted to get that in there.

I still think the best recent Star Trek has been the two animated series!

Would suggest they do a live action follow up to Prodigy and Lower Decks but they'd probably make a mess of that, too.

They just need to introduce a homogeneous galactic swarm that wipes out the whole lot of them, then introduce Franklin Richards or Dr Manhattan who reboots the Galaxy with a rejuvenated Picard, to boldy go forth.

I watched the singing one and turned it off after ten mins. The initial joke was good i did laugh, but it got stale very fast.

Then this new episode, again. It just feels too much ike a paradoy of Star Trek for my tastes.

The characters are just too quirky. Its way too light hearted.

I'll definitely try again but I agree even lower decks is better than this. I think it's the era I prefer TNG/DS9. Well I grew up with that, just like Roger Moore is my James bond :p
