What film did you watch last night?

KPop Demon Hunters

Was pretty fun, just about rides the line between fun and cheesy. Humour saves it, music is pretty catchy, plot is....serviceable. Zoey was great.

The Last Boy Scout (1991)

After watching all four Lethal Weapon films I decided I needed more Shane Black characters, so annoyed my wife by reciting the dialogue this one as well.

I always loved this film from my first watch on VHS and didn't get why it didn't do as well as the Lethal Weapon films. Willis and Wayans were a great pairing and it has my introduction to the delightful Halle Berry.

You could argue it's very similar in tone and has similar beats to Lethal Weapon, but that doesn't take anything away for me. There's some great dialogue, though not all of it lands and can be a little clumsy at times. Willis does the world weary character very well and Wayans is a great foil for it.

Still, it's very underrated in my opinion and I would've lapped up a sequel or two.

8/10

Absolute classic. And, as you say, very underrated.

Funnily enough @barmyllama I also rewatched this recently, and was thinking about watching it again. It is one of my favourite films of the era, for the exact reasons that you mention.
Casting Willis with Wayans is in it's own right, 'as good' as Glover and Gibson, because it isn't trying to replace LW, it's it's own thing in it's own right, despite clearly being just a rehash of LW - but it works, and I'm all for it!
The casting is perfect, even the mouthy daughter is brilliant! Unsuprisingly, Halle in her prime is chef's kiss ;) :D

The best line in the film is:
Touch me again and I'll kill ya!
And what obviously follows :D

I totally agree, I could have watched 3-4 of these without even flinching! Definitely a missed opportunity!

I tend to watch this after working my way through all the LW's every year - yes I do love them that much :P

Happy Gilmore

Never watched it, but obviously no. 2 has come out, so I thought I'd give it a go.
Not the greatest fan of Sadler, tbh the wedding singer is the only film of his I've liked previously.
Absolute crock of poo. Typical predictable American humour. You can see the poor gags coming a mile away. Couldn't be bothered watching it all.
3/10.
However, The Wedding Singer, is brilliant, especially that bit
with Steve Buscemi drunk at the wedding and tripping over outside and still managing to save his drink - that was definitely improv/by accident, and kept in!

Infinity Pool 7 / 10

Went in cold and enjoyed it immensely. Somewhat psychedelic take on social behaviours of the rich when abroad! Mia Goth doing what she does best and yet another film where she shines. Wish she would do more straight films as her acting abilities are quite mesmerising!

Watched Alita Battle Angel this morning, Seen it before and really enjoyed it, and this time was no different. A solid 7/10 for me

Was there a sequel ever in the works?

I can’t remember exactly how it ended but I think I recall the ending was set up for another movie. Hope we get another as it’s a really good movie.

They keep saying they are working on multiple sequels. I thought it was a little above average, the CGI on the main character was damn stupid though and detracted massively from the film.

What a little treasure this is - Locked 2025 - 10/10

Basically two people with one trapped in a car controlled by the other played by Anthony Hopkins but you only hear his voice unless you see him at the end but I haven't got there yet.

Update - you do see him :)

Presence (2025)

Steven Soderbergh does another one man band film that bored the pants off me. He basically plays a ghost using the camera and follows a disfunctional family, who's daughter is mourning the loss of a friend. It plays out as a lot of scenes of varying lengths, portraying their interactions with each other. It's more of a drama than a horror or ghost story.

I was ready to turn it off after less than twenty minutes, but gave it the benefit of the doubt. I should've gone with my first instinct and turned it off.

2/10

dark city - 6/10 - ive seen it before, bit of a cult movie. Its 'fine'. People claim the matrix ripped it off but i dont agree.
Megalopolis - wow 3/10 - what was he thinking - points only for John Voigts bow and arrow.
Mortal engines - 2/10 - and i thought megaolopolis was going to be the worst movie of the night but this was tediously dull

Land of mine.

Foreign language film, based on the true events of post war German prisoner soldiers, having to remove the 1.3 million land mines that the German army had laid on the beaches of Denmark.

Don't let the fact it's a foreign language film detract from it, as it's not a particularly high dialogue film.

A very emotional film & very unique. The relationship development between the Danish Seargent & the really young end of war, basically German kid soldiers, tasked with removing the mines makes for an excellent watch.

8.5/10
