What retro things have you done today?

Never thought I would see another one since I bought my first from here in about 2004! Tape on box, but it's "new" and unused. It's the 3 block version with a triple rad.

Thats a blast from the past! You going to use it on any particular system?

Was this expensive?

I have an old Athlon XP socket A/462 which I've transferred into a modern case, only thing is the CPU fan is constantly on full speed and sounds like a hair dryer so after 20 minutes of playing Midtown Maddness I need to switch it off and enjoy some peace!

I paid about £80 all in from ebay, which I consider an absolute bargain. I've not been searching for one for long though so no idea how often they come up...I'm guessing new ones are hens teeth territory.

Edit - there is one for £200 up there, no idea on the details though, looks a bit sketchy.

I'm working through testing my "new" Athlon collection so would either be on a Barton XP2500+ with NF2 Ultra 400 or on an FX60 on NF4 Lanparty. I'll settle on which one later once I've had them all up and running on the test bench.

Probably the NF2 setup though because the DFI NF4 is far rarer and more valuable.

Blast from the past indeed, I feel 30 again :-)

Edit: I've spotted the old Corsair C70 lurking in the mancave study after a clean up. Likely target case for the build.

Sounds like a steal for something rare, I'd have been torn between fitting it or storing it

Glad you posted it, I didn't realise they were available especially in the retail world back then.

Just plugged in the dishwashed Microsoft Sidewinder X4 keyboard and its working fine. Backlighting is fine if a bit dim, but its been a few years since I owned one back in 2009!

Well, that was not expected!

However the clean really shows up the scratches to the gloss plastic and wrist wrest looks rough (photo doesn't show).

Scuffs were a lot less obvious when it was grubby. Bugger.

Stupid Kings Quest 4. I was doing so well in nearing the end of the game. I was saving the game along the way. Stupidly, to the same save slot. And then I fell off a cliff and died just at the point the save finished. So every time it loaded that slot, I died. In a small grace, there was a save slot which was about 20 minutes behind this, so I need to go from there..

I've not visited much retro pc stuff this year but I picked up an unused Lian Li V350 M-ATX Case. I saw this on the eBay, and there was a few hours left so put an offer in and it was accepted. Its going to house my mega fast Win98 which will also have XP installed on it. I started fitting the parts to it, but I want to find a nice PSU for it, and a Optical drive to install. It currently has a copper cored 775 cooler on it, but I do have a Thermalright top down cooler which I will fit when I can be bothered to go up into the loft to fetch it.

Started to fit the parts this afternoon

I did it!!!

I say again, I would have given up a long time ago if it wasn't for the walkthrough guide. There are some ludicrous bits and some really unnecessary bits too. It's far too easy to fall off stairs and die.

I did notice the guide had a couple of direction errors too.

What's next? I need to shuffle the base units. I'm thinking Sam and Max or Full Throttle on the P90.

I'm on annual leave this week. We're on holiday, but I brought the Mister with me.

This morning, I played NES Jeopardy and was using Google to cheat. I bet everything on the final question and didn't type my answer in time.. :(

I took my Jeopardy on the NES cheating to the next level. On the Mister, I couldn't pause the console. I made the same setup on my Win11 Surface and was then pausing the emulator whilst I Googled each and every question. I did so well that it went over on what the scoreboard could display.

On the questions I really couldn't fathom, I saved the game and let the other contestants answer, then I reloaded so I could submit the correct answer.

Was it worth it? Absolutely not..
