BMW and M Power Owners

AUC warranty has no excess to pay.

You have to pay the diagnostic fee if they don't find an issue.

Everything is covered by the warranty up to 100k miles unless some 'third party interference' has damaged something. For example if you hit a giant pothole and knacker the suspension, that isn't wear and tear.

Some of it will come down to how good the BMW dealership are... but it's all very straightforward so if you think something is wrong, tell them.

The dealer charges a health check fee

No, they don't. The Vehicle Health Check is a quick check that is performed free of charge with most, if not all, workshop visits. It's the link you get to a video that tells you the tyre tread depths, the brake wear and so on. What you mean is a diagnostic fee, which although similar sounding is not the same thing.

The BMW warranty will cover the cost of diagnostics, labour and parts for any covered fault with the car. If the fault found is not covered by the warranty, then the warranty won't pay for anything. This is how it's always been and nothing has really changed here.

This can often lead to situations where a dealer spends 2 hours doing a load of investigation work on a car only to find that the fault is not covered by the warranty - perhaps the customer reported a noise and the noise turned out to be a problem with a tyre or something. The warranty isn't going to pay for this, so either the dealer has to just accept they've done 2 hours of work for nothing or the customer pays for it. As a result of this a number of dealers now charge a 'diagnostic fee' for the time taken to investigate an issue. If a warranty claim results, you don't pay this (or get it refunded if its charged up front), if it doesn't, then you do.

Different dealers will handle this in different ways - but I think the above basically explains the situation around the fees that some dealers demand the second you mention a warranty issue.

If I wanted it checked out , could I go to BMW seeing as I have Warrenty cover on wear and tear items up to 100,000 until my Warrenty runs out ?

The warranty won't cover damage to the vehicle as a result of hitting a pothole. This isn't what it means by 'wear and tear'.

I'm hoping you guys could help me track down a part. I had the BMW health check that Fox is talking about and they flagged "front shock dust covers split" and would kindly change it for me for only £750.68.

I've found the part (https://www.partsinmotion.co.uk/car...0-shock-absorber-dust-cover-kit-181760-detail).

What should I do - take it to a local garage and ask them to quote to fit it? Or just go to the garage in the first place and not buy a spare.

The only reason why I'm a little confused is I've used ClickMechanic several times and the guys that came to my house have been great, but this is a spare that they don't seem to change.

There most be more to it than that, how is that a £750 job? Are they recommending you change the entire shock absorber not just the cover or something?

but you've got to compress the shock and probably remove suspension arms - indeed, wouldn't you replace shocks at same time
(back ones I replaced myself trivial, but I never did fronts)

This is all they said:

That reads to me as just the cover

That's a common issue, my sister's 3 Series just had it done under warranty that price is only to remove the shocks and replace the dustcover and refit. They quoted 4 hours labour and a wheel alignment.

The front dust covers are split on my 2019 330i which has done 14k miles and bmw want £334 to replace them. They flagged up as amber on my health check report. But as the shock covers are covered under warranty and only an amber warning, they won’t replace them until it’s either flagged up on the mot as an advisory or a red warning on the health check.

The service advisor said they will check it next year, they don’t replace parts until they fail.

Sad to see my 440i go in a couple of weeks
Autotrader private sale = £21k
Motormoolah = £20k

Gonna take the easy route and go with motormoolah

Had the dreaded blocked windscreen washer filters on my M340i. Booked in at a local garage to get that sorted and for them to then MOT the car. They decided to do it the other way around, and lo and behold it failed on windscreen washers which were then repaired and the MOT passed...

Did you use different screen wash? I had hoped only using the BMW screen wash would avoid this issue.

At £27 for 5L BMW can sod off now anyway. Silly money for screen wash.
Except diluted at sensible rates it works out about the same as generic Halfords fair

Edit:
(Also regularly on offer - £18.63 was what I last paid for it)

I don’t use the Halfords stuff though. £5 for 5L of blue Prestone from Costco and dilutes similarly to the BMW one.

I top up screen wash fairly regularly but I will admit that’s in part to my obsession with having a clear windscreen all the time.
