The Newcastle United Club Thread **No Spoilers**

As a Forest fan who emigrated to Newcastle 14 years ago I do find it hard to understand why they're struggling so much to attract anybody.

I know they're still building up and are still at the stage where they have to buy and sell to create financial headroom to be a top club and all that stuff.

But, they're further down that road than Forest, as evidenced by Elanga following me up here, and in the Champions League next season so should be an attractive proposition to a lot of up and coming players even as a shop window should they not push on this year.

I kinda get the whole "it's not London' argument too, but family and Forest aside, I'd pick Newcastle to live over the Midlands all day. And if you're on £100k a week and can afford planes, trains and drivers at will, its not like being here is like being at the **** end of the world.

I think wages are a big part of it, you seem unwilling/unable to go as high as others.

I'm also quite shocked that given the owners access to unlimited funds no decision on the stadium has been reached and no new training ground either. Would have thought they would have been 1st on the list to improve - they been there 4 years (?) And only just getting round to that side of things, seems slow

That's where Newcastle are at though, there's no magic bullet. You have to buy the right players, improve them and sell them on. That's what Howe is good at and that's what he was brought in for. Keeping them isn't part of the deal... if it ever will be.

Even the bigger clubs do it. Letting players go when they want to go is part of the attraction. Not letting them go when they want to doesn't help you recruit the next ones.
Oh I've been saying on the Newcastle discord that we must get better at selling players at the right time. I think our issue is that we're so bereft of depth, any big ticket sale sets us back as we can't properly replace them and also increase the depth needed. Like I said in the xfer thread, I don't really care if Isak goes, all players leave eventually , I just want it to be on the best terms possible for us to continue to grow. Which involves us getting a suitable replacement first.

Definitely, we just cannot afford the wages the top teams pay - so it limits us to the calibre of player out there. I think if we didn't get CL, the risk of getting more unknown quantities lessens with a threadbare squad - but there's some kind of expectation that we need to kick on, which feels impossible in the current PSR world. It really does feel like it's designed to stop the natural growth teams like Newcastle are trying to do. But that's the nature of the beast right now.

I'm also shocked regarding the training ground infrastructure and the lack of pace there. Not so much the stadium -due to it's location / land ownership / grade 1/2 listed building being right next door etc, along with a firm supporter desire to stay within the city. It will be a long and drawn out process shamefully.

With regards to the lack of movement on the training ground/stadium, it's reaching the point now where you have to wonder about the ownerships commitment to us. I've read a lot that it's normal in Saudi for things to take a long time, so am hoping it's just that and there will be an announcement soon. But the complete lack of a figurehead and absence of any communication doesn't help. Stavely is a huge loss on that front, if nothing else.

Anyway, still a month of the window left. For us to have a good season we need to be very active, so let's see where we are in a month.

I don’t think there will ever be a new stadium. Even if there was money available and a team put together to make it happen, there is just no viable spot for it. I’m in tier one construction developments, these things takes years to get started even if you have a site and the cash. Plus if they carry on as they are then they’ll struggle to fill it. The training ground on the other hand is unforgivable. You’d have thought that would be an easy one.
Like I said on the last page, the feeling among the fans on the back of last season is at an all time high. I was in Singapore last weekend and was astounded at the amount of families that had travelled from other parts of Asia, decked out in black and white, coming for a glimpse of a team they likely couldn’t point to on a map. It was amazing to see.
Next weekends friendly is already sold out, shirts are flying off the shelves and people are once again proud of this one club town yet through misfortune or mismanagement the club has shot itself in the foot. Yes we don’t want to lose Isak but we have been here before (although it’s been a decade since we have had such a saleable asset) and lost other highly prized players to bigger and richer teams. It happens all the time. The situation is little different to Mbueno and Wissa at Brentford really and countless other players. Except in true Newcastle style it’s playing out over some protracted dramatic media circus. We’ve even had some numpty hanging out a daubed bedsheet.

so newcastle have signed ramsdale

I really dont understand this signing tbh, pope is a great goalkeeper but not the best with his feet and ramsdale is not good with his feet either which is why we got rid of him. Don't see why newcastle have signed him tbh

Howe knows him from Bournemouth (Ramsdale). I was also underwhelmed, but if Howe likes him, that's good enough for me.

I though he was decent with his feet though? Can't be worse than Pope.

he's "ok" with his feet, always had a mistake in him though
Interesting to read he was in the PL team of the season the year before Arteta binned him. Appreciate there's been a couple of high profile clangers, but word is he had a good season at Southampton too, all things told.

I'm a lot happier now than I was with this one.

Stadium pretty easy to explain. Listed buildings everywhere Newcastle turn. Lots of hands have to be greased and the government might have to get involved.

Training ground and sponsorship. Are they waiting on the ruling of the City challenge on the updates? Amanda did have training sponsor lined up before the ruckus.

By all means if you look at the appointments Newcastle did hire an info structure specialist that worked on many airports this year. Two companies have been tasked to draw up plans for New ground and stadium.

Saudies value their League more than Newcastle? Of course they do. They have over 10 billion to pump in it before 2030.
They have invested vast amounts of money into football worldwide and getting cosy with FIFA.

What you can blame them for is the background board chaos. Amanda was forced out after Earls went running to the PIF crying that he couldn’t do his job. Club lost its face and the main person driving it. There was also a slight legal issue^^

Earls appointed his mate Michell as DOF and it’s caused complete chaos. Just look at the Isak situation and Trafford.

Now Earls has fallen ill with some form of cancer and the club seem to be taking a complete age to replace both him and Michell.

Also forgot to add St.James is hosting some of the euros.

On a brighter note!!

Looks like we are signing a 3million quid a year deal with Guinness!!

Where did you see this? Not seen it reported anywhere. It looks like a major misstep, the lack of sponsorships, I was hoping we'd be seeing income which could make a real difference to the PSR stuff by now.

That’s why I’m wondering are Newcastle awaiting the clear up and the ruling on Apt1 and APT2 that City have challenged. Newcastle have already had multiple sponsorships reduced via the old APt rules. Why jump into new sponsorships before everything is cleared up.

It’s a slow process but I believe Arsenal is the only club that’s has seen bigger % gains in their revenue than Newcastle.

Doesn't spending on the stadium have an impact on profit & sustainability for rules?

Yeah some serious specifics being talked about there.
Training ground and Stadium. The two things the PIF could easy do. That’s been banded about in the transfer thread as lost interest.

Brenton has just had its second refub with the first one costing over 10million.

We’ve had two leaks from extremely reliable sources. Club and PIF seem to be leaning towards new stadium rather than St.James refub due to fan feedback taking them by surprise.

Over a Billion dollar stadium and the second biggest training complex in Europe behind PSG have been leaked. Two separate companies have also been mooted to deal with it. Guys that did the Spurs Stadium seem to be looking at the training ground.

I said Previously look at the recruitment.

You are probably looking at around 2billion probably more once you take in the infrastructure.

Roads, metro, green spaces and listed buildings as well has it being City centred makes it 100% worse.
