EV general discussion

As long as the charger has a temperature sensor and has the ability to throttle itself back if things get toasty then it's all good.

I went for a Masterplug when it was on offer at Halfords and at least 175 charges with it plugged in and switched on 24/7 for the last 245 days all is good so far.

To assume an "official" one would be anything better than a branded off the shelf unit would be foolish. Likewise a "DunVoltz" or whatever from AliExpress that claims to charge at 16A is probably worth a swerve :p

As long as it’s well reviewed and a decent brand, it should be fine.

That being said, I wouldn’t want to skimp out on something handling near max 3 pin power capabilities for the sake of £135, given I assume you’d be charging overnight?

Edit: think cheap PC power supplies. Technically fine, not worth the risk.

Cheers! It's the Masterplug one from Screwfix, seems to get decent reviews. I'll buy one next week if it looks like the install might encounter any issues.

I'd probably just suck up the costs from charging at on peak rates, so 6pm > 10pm when i get home to when i go to bed type scenario if I end up being say 1-2 weeks out on getting the EV charger sorted. It might not happen, the electrician comes next Wednesday to do the DNO form, I'm fairly confident we have a 100A fuse fitted, but we do have an induction hob and electric shower, but presumably the wall charger having dynamic load capabilities would mean the DNO shouldn't have any issues?
Most do, certainly the smarter ones certainly have.. (I've got a Hypervolt)..

100A is fine, we have an 80A fuse because we share with the street light opposite us (which I keep meaning to get unlooped from) and have an electric shower / induction hob, but the charger will limit if needed..

Cheers :) I've asked for a Hypervolt as well, just so I can look to get it hardwired into the ethernet, thankfully on the wall behind where the charger is going is a whole host of network ports, so hopefully it'll just be a quick drill through and terminate into a flush wall socket and stick an rj45 on the other end into the hypervolt.

You’ll be fine. 100A is the biggest standard domestic supply and you take into account diversification of your load.

Is there any benefit to going for an official 3 pin charger over say one from screwfix? The charger install may or not get sorted in time, but I suppose having one could be useful for backup.

I was quoted £250 for the official one, but screwfix version is £115.

Maybe a 2nd hand official one? I picked up an official Kia one for my Niro, including the carry case for <£100

Decided agaisnt the ex-demo car. New from stock cars have a £3000 contribution. Over 4 years that saves a bit more compared to the savings I'd get from less tax. I'm already used to paying the higher car tax so it is what it is.

Unfortunately, my IPace has thrown up the Traction Battery Fault. It stopped charging at a public charger at 88%. It complains every time I start it so isn't just a glitch. Booked in with JLR service centre on 12th for diagnosis.

Pre pivi 70 plate, 39K. I'm hoping it's the 12v batteries giving me duff info.

I found my front camera and 360 view earlier it’s quite funky…lol

My button to open and close the charge cover does not seem to work though unless I’m doing something wrong.

Took the car to a body repair shop I trust and we landed on the opinion to reject the car. Gone back to the large dealer t’up norf and they’re rejecting my rejection. So hard ball it is…

Shame!

Let the games begin!

I thought they were going to fix the damage FOC?
They were but upon taking it to a body repair shop he highlighted a plethora of other damage and issues. They sold the car being in brilliant condition, no dents/dings and all alloys in excellent condition.

There was a lot of discussion at the dealership when I found the damage and I was going to reject then but they were pushy with me taking the car away and sorting it after saying their own body repair shop will do it.

They’re saying it can’t be rejected as it’s cosmetic and that because it’s not the brand which they sell the laws don’t apply.

To be fair that is where you might fall over if trying to use the consumer rights act to reject. As it's not a significant issue affecting use of the car and also as it's cosmetic it would have been visible when inspecting the car on collection.

The brand bit is irrelevant rubbish.
