What film did you watch last night?

Jurassic World Rebirth, absolute trash, was hoping all the cast got eaten that's how much I bonded with characters, why do they bother bringing it back.
Many a time shouted at TV just hurry up n eat them so it can be over( more colourful language used)
Don't think I been this bored for ages, laid there thinking what colour to paint bedroom lol

Deadpool vs Wolverine

First time I've seen it since the cinema. If you're looking at it critically there are flaws and the plot is a little lacking. But it's incredibly funny, the references are absolutely spot on, the cast is top notch throughout and it's just so much fun
I felt the complete opposite. I really enjoyed the first Deadpool, but with time and subjected to so many of these films, this was just tired to me. Barely raised a smile and it seems incredibly overrated. Am I dead inside?

I'm of the exact same opinion.

28 Years Later - 6.5/10

Got to say I quite enjoyed it, maybe after the amount of negative reviews it's been getting I went with very low expectations and it certainly exceeded those.

I agree with Nitefly, the standard Zombie film has been done to death (excuse the pun) and they need an extra something nowadays. My friend didn't like the second half at all, and I understand why people wouldn't, as it was a bit artsy-fartsy and he was using a lot of symbolism, rather than it being an action/horror. But I dont mind an artsy film with that level of pretentiousness at times :p

Did make me laugh when the Jimmy Saville crew turned up though, as my friend literally exclaimed "What the ****"

Jules - Alien crashes in Ben Kingsley's back garden. Fixes its ship and flys off. Nothing much happens at all. But a great cast, fine enough film i guess. The sort of thing actors do while waiting for something else to be signed off probably. 6/10

I hope the Alien apologized to BK and helped tidy up the mess from the crash? Otherwise that's rather rude and selfish!

Same for me - I watched it a while ago and absolutely hated it . I thought the soundtrack was awful and the worst I've heard in a very long while. To be fair there were a few laughs here and there, but the whole thing just really didn't work for me. That said my wife really enjoyed it, so it might fall into the marmite category?

A Nightmare on Elm Street (purchased on Apple)

A gang of teens is plagued by dreams that have serious consequences…

Gooooddddamn this film is so 80s. It’s the most 80s thing of all time, possibly even of the 80s. The way it’s shot, presented, the music, the charming practical effects… yup, it’s 80s. I always have a soft spot for the classic, now seldom-used ‘naive teens in trouble’ set-up, there’s something endearing about it. Nowadays it would have to be edgy, or cynical, whereas this film isn’t ‘self-aware’ so it can have fun without trying to be clever.

Beyond that nostalgia and the excellent premise, some of it is kind of dated, especially the dialogue and delivery that goes from bad to bizarre. On this (re)watch, I had a good laugh at how utterly ridiculous / brainless / terrible that mother character is. Paraphrasing slightly, but we were howling at the following dialogue:

Mother / dad: “was there any reason why your friend killed her?”
Daughter: “no… they had a fight but it wasn’t that serious…”
Mother: “well maybe you just don’t think that murder is serious!!!” <—- wtf?!

The musical motif that plays over and over feels overdone and I tbh found myself getting a little impatient waiting for ‘the good bits’ - which are very good, including the fun ending.

A good time, not huge amounts to rewatch for though… other than to laugh at the mum and for the ‘good bits’ (such as that classic first death).

Oh, and it’s fun to see Johnny Depp so young. And that seance woman from Insidious shows up as the teacher

Final point - there is a massive fish in their basement, what’s up with that? Would have been a great weapon against Freddy… smack him with that giant fish!!!

7/10 - but being a little generous there for the benefit of the classic iconic scenes. I haven’t actually watched any of the sequels so I’m looking forward to that.

Finally watched Civil War

Didn't know what to expect as I didn't know much about it.

Half thought it'd just be mainly warfare but it was much harder hitting thanks to it not being flooded with it.

Is enjoyable the word? Maybe unnerving as it doesn't seem fanciful.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge (purchased on Apple)

A family moves into a ‘cheap’ house on Elm Street that seems to have a history…

Decent performance from the lead in this, generally better / more developed characters than the first film, good set-up etc., but it didn’t even try to make sense or establish rules as to how anything was supposed to be ‘working’. Freddy’s rampage and powers seem without limit, with much less of a connection to sleep.

He’s causing a swimming pool full of awake people to boil at one point. Why? Because Freddy, that’s why.

The annoying comic relief mum has been replaced by an insanely annoying dad, with less laughs which was a major downgrade. The giant fish in the basement was also missing :(

Some fun effects but it trailed off quite a lot towards the end which is a shame. Skippable.

5/10

Watched The Pickup,
Very average action comedy, its watchable but nothing you haven't seen before.
A typical streaming service original that iust goes through the motions and adds nothing new.
5/10

Weapons - 6.5 - 7/ 10

Hard to score this one, I did enjoy it overall, though can't see myself watching it again.

The pros : I really enjoyed the style of the film, its one of those that tell the story from multiple viewpoints, so they overlap some but each advances the story a bit more. So the enjoyment came from not knowing why the event had happened and seeing it slowly unfold. The musical score was enjoyably quirky and it used some unusual camera shots to good effect.

The Cons: At 2+ hrs it certainly did unfold the story slowly. And after 3 or 4 viewpoints and maybe an hour in still nothing (horror related) had really happened. The violence and gore was really only limited to a couple of events - maybe I've been completely desensitised by watching Terrifier 3 though,, where there was more horrific gore/violence in the opening scene than in the entirety of this!

So as a horror, I'd score it quite low, but as a menacing mystery I'd score it a lot higher. And I hope the final scene was intentionally done in a farcical and humorous way, it certainly had the whole cinema laughing anyway :p
