What film did you watch last night?

A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (purchased on Apple)

Freddy terrorises a group of teens in a psychiatric ward.

This was pretty good! It’s heavily implied that there is a bit of ‘fighting back’ in the title and whilst there isn’t as much of that as I hoped, what’s there is very (and I know I overuse this word…) fun.

Best characters so far, with returning characters from the original. Some grizzly and goofy effects, plus much more intentional humour - I laughed out loud a few times. As a side note, the series keeps with tradition by having a maddeningly annoying / irrational parent.

Yeah, I’d say this was my favourite so far… I seriously doubt it’s going to get any better :o :p

I seem to remember that this was probably the best film of the series, when I watched them when they were originally released.

Goldfinger (1964)

A Saturday afternoon matinee of Sean Connery's best know James Bond film. Probably the one Connery Bond I've seen the most, as it was on TV regularly when I was a kid. As well as playing with the DB5 Corgi car.

As with many films from that era, they generally don't age very well. The dialogue is cheesy, the acting is quite wooden and the actions scenes are a bit lame. But nostalgia carries a lot of weight and the Bond format was well and truly cemented by this point, so they're still enjoyable.

Hustle 2022 - 9/10

Adam Sandler in a heart felt movie about a basketball scout who finds a talent overseas and brings him to the US putting his neck on the line.

Really enjoyed seeing Sandler in this type of role, not a comedy but still a few smiles. I believe the main character is actually an ex-pro basketballer who did really well. Anybody that’s a ‘nobody’ and not Pedro Pascal gets my vote!

This is the best film he's done in years.
The casting is great, both families are believable. Nice to see Robert Duvall, as well!

My favourite line was:

"How could such a beautiful woman, have such horrific feet!?"
Also the part when she made him eat the cheese, of which he hates :P

Thunderbolts 4/10

Another Disney/Marvel film by numbers affair, where the usual Marvel stuff happens but to different characters, yada, yada, yada.
The pacing was slow, but there were a couple of funny moments.

Barbarian - 6/10.

It was alright. Strange break midway through that doesn’t really add anything. It could have easily worked (and probably for the better) without the additional person. The horror element is very tired.

Will take any internet ravings about the directors next film, Weapons, with a pinch of salt.

Ghostbusters Afterlife (2021) 10/10

I loved the original as a kid and still do. Ghostbusters 2 was bad and the reboot with the women was disgraceful. I put of watching this because of the others. I wish I hadn't. The story was good and the nods to the original film were funny. I even got a bit of grit in my eye at the end.

RIP Harold.

Paddington in Peru (2025)

My wife is a bit of a Paddington fan and we've seen the other two, so having to sit through this was inevitable. It's ok, Olivia Coleman's performance is a highlight, apart from the song she performs early on in the film. I still think the second film is the best and Hugh Grant was great villain.

KPop Demon Hunters (2025) - 6/10

Impressive visuals, catchy songs and an interesting setting, but the story could have done with being slightly longer and more original.

There’s plenty of action and humour and the trio of girls are fun and entertaining to watch but not all of the characters are developed evenly and the moral message gets lost in the rushed ending.

The romance sub-plot derails the pacing slightly, but overall, it’s enjoyable and funny.
