Your bad driving encounters

Heading home tonight and was coming up the road from the Denburn Road underpass and got stopped at the pedestrain crossing at the top just as it turned to red. Car coming the other also stopped, but a bit into the crossing. After a momentary pause, I remembered. This is dual carriageway

Think the guy realised he'd ****ed up big style, as the crossing wouldn't have any lights facing his direction and the pedestrian luckily was crossing from my side of the road, might have been different if they were crossing the other way. Tooted him a couple of times as he passed and saw he did a u-turn half way down the hill before the road disappeared into the dark under Union St which might have given somebody a nasty surprise.

Aldi car park today, had a 530e parked far back into their bay overlapping in the one behind. I didn't realize it quickly as I pulled into that bay.
As I was slowly inching forward to get my car as much into my bay, the guy shows up and then looks at me as if I am the problem. ;)

I just looked at him back with poker face and then glanced back to my 3 year old to say something. After getting out I happened to notice that he had backed almost 1 foot plus into his bay.
The turning skill was equally atrocious as he went halfway into the oncoming lane in the car park as he turned left. I am glad no words were exchanged between us, I guess lines of any form don't exist in his brain. :D

Was cruising along at 40 mph on a dual carriageway this morning and went through a green set of lights, as I'm doing so this car pulls out from my right hand side honking their horn as if I'm doing something wrong. Luckily no accident but I wasn't at fault, I was doing the speed limit and I had a green set of lights.

I can't see how he pulled out without going through a red set of lights, he shouldn't have been where he was. Anyway I know I wasn't in the wrong as I had right of way and green lights.

The Highway Code:

This section should be read by all drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists and horseriders. The rules in The Highway Code do not give you the right of way in any circumstance, but they advise you when you should give way to others. Always give way if it can help to avoid an incident.

Fair enough but still don’t think he should have pulled out on me, I was doing 40 through green lights, and I had already passed the lights before he honked his horn at me.

Not the worst ever but pulled out onto a roundabout, 2 lanes but narrow and sharp angle so not ideal for 2 vehicle side by side anyhow, took lane 2 as I was going 3rd exit which was past 12 o’clock and the person approaching at the next entrance pulled straight out into lane 1 as I'm passing without waiting and then sat there looking like they might try to pass me on the left so it wasn't clear for me to move over to lane 1 to take my exit - fortunately my exit was a dual-carriageway but then they are acting all impatient straddling the lanes, once it was clear they weren't going to pass me on the left I moved over and then they flew past me only to then sit at the speed limit for the next few miles with me sitting back at about safe braking distance behind them... just totally unnecessary.

Whoops!

Came across this on my morning drive. Evidently it had not long happened, hazards were still flashing. Not sure how they managed it...was a quiet, but fairly wide and straight bit of road, and dry. Perhaps swerving to avoid a deer, if so maybe unfair to call it bad driving, but still.

Yes, I did check no one was inside. It was on a rural road and I hadn't passed anyone on foot...while I was stopped, a cyclist also pulled up coming from the other way who had also seen no one. Considered calling 101, but as the car wasn't blocking the road I didn't. Assume the driver has been picked up by a friend.

Travelling north up the M5 was a nightmare yesterday.. huge delays northbound, all because of three things.

1. A southbound accident caused rubber necking northbound.. why oh why do people do this, we had people slowing to 5mph and all hanging out of their windows.. there was a 15 mile queue of slow traffic just for that one issue on a carriageway not affected by the actual accident
2. Every junction had queues before the exit and entry sections, the number of people who make last second decisions to pile across 2 lanes because the exit is now 200m away is crazy, it causes utter carnage as people jam on to avoid said person hitting them, and similar on the people joining the motorway from the junction, and those on the inside lane, no one looks ahead and merges sympathetically, just turn in to the car already on the carriageway, they swerve in to lane 2, then lane 2 cars dive in to lane 3 causing everyone to brake heavily and suddenly it’s a mile of queues around every junction.
3. People seem to drive as if only able to see 5m in front of themselves, few people seem to react to traffic further ahead and slow gradually, just race at full speed to stationary traffic and jam on right at the last second.. it’s horrifying following some people, maximum acceleration quickly followed by maximum braking, the effect it has on traffic flow is obvious.

So a 2 hour journey took 4.5 hours.. thank god for autopilot.adaptive cruise.. that is a bit janky at times, but still drives better than 80% of the population…

(e: how good is autpilot cameras at identifying speeds)

Hadn't realised how bad the google maps speed limits are - was travelling around peterborough several times at weekend a47/a605,
several sections which are duel carriageway are only 60mph - but google said 70mph

I probably need to turn off it's speed 'estimates' as it gives you a false confidence, a dashcam record to review later and see if signs are obvious would be useful.

(subsequently searching seems openstreet has correct speed limits , but google doesn't use them,
supposedly google was improving their estimates
“Google licenses imagery in the form of short, silent video clips from vehicle dash cams from trusted third-party companies,” the page explains. “These companies use dash cams in their own everyday operations. For example, they may use them to collect imagery for accident investigations, or they may sell such devices to consumers. With contributor consent, these companies share imagery with trusted partners like Google to help update Google Maps, or as a first step in making road improvements.”
UK is also waiting for other google map updates
like immersive views and ev charger status info.

IME camera based detection is 'good' at spotting the signs/reading the limits but they usually lack any awareness/context of the sign, so picking up badly placed sideroad / slip road speed limits is one of the problems, most haven't solved that well..
