Summer Transfer Window 25/26 *Sponsored by Bigpig*

I don't think it's a given that Konate will leave at the end of the season (there's been numerous reports lately that talks over his deal are progressing) but regardless, I don't see Guehi being first choice even in the longer term. If the club saw him as somebody that was a first choice CB, whether now or in 12 months, then the deal would have been done by now. Instead it looks like he's seen as a relatively cheap, versatile CB that doesn't take up a non homegrown spot in the squad.
I hope they have a plan then because I'm 99% certain that Konate will go (I should caveat that by also saying that like most people on this forum, I was also 99% certain that we wouldnt sign Wirtz :) ), if not this transfer window, then at the end of the season so if Guehi isnt intended to be the replacement first choice then I hope they have someone in mind to be.

I suspect we'll be signing 2 CB's in the next 12 months, 3 if Konate ends up leaving. They'll have their targets. Guehi though just looks and feels like a cheap, reliable option as one of four CB's, with the added bonus that he's homegrown and can cover both sides. He's a steady eddy that may allow you to bring in a bit of a gamble/project player that you want to ease into the side as the long term starting CB.

If that is indeed the case, then I have to change my earlier post, if he wouldnt be coming to be a first choice CB then I dont think he will come. Probably better to remain at Palace as club captain and play every game possible this season than come and be a side choice rather than a first choice.

Leeds made some shrewd signings early on but it ground to a halt after signing Stach and Perri. They’re looking for at least three attackers and are waiting for the first domino to fall

Nah, most players would much rather be a bit-part player at a club like Liverpool, especially one where they'd play "enough" games, get to play in the Champions League and have a realistic chance on winning that and the Premier
league than play, even as captain for a club like Palace. Players want to win stuff. On top of that he'll get paid more and enjoy much better facilities.

I think he'd also cement his place in the England side doing that too.

There's no chance he signs a new deal and will be moving next summer at the latest and where's he gonna want to go?

Just think if you hadn’t ****** around with Ekitike, you might have had Isak by now, it’s like you haven’t learned a thing

I see rumours of Liverpool being in for Wissa
I'd be pretty happy with that. Ekitike deserves a chance to be first choice. We also have goals available from Gakpo, Wirtz, Salah, possibly Frimpong, and hopefully more from Szoboszlai this year. It makes sense to my mind to spend less on a striker, to bring in someone who is proven to score in the PL but won't mind working off the bench, and to bolster the midfield and defence. My preference would be Mateta, but I'd be really happy with Wissa. The Isak transfer seems like a potentially disruptive and very expensive market opportunity and I don't think is in the squad's best interests.

There is zero chance any team sells their only striker before getting replacements.

Whilst I tend to agree on the whole, I wouldn't say zero or any. I'd say ideally and Newcastle certainly aren't dealing with ideally at the moment.

What happens if Isak sticks to his plan of never kicking another ball for Newcastle? Sell him in January anyway?

Newcastle will be able to buy replacements and somewhere down the line a club is going to be left short.

He can stay and we can fine him over and over for not sticking to his contractual obligations.

He’ll lose sharpness over the year and yes, we won’t get as much for him but damn he’d be less desirable
