*** Car Wash / Valet / Detailing Thread ***

Been thinking of setting up a gazebo in the drive and giving the car a polish with a DA. While I understand it’s not perfect conditions, it should be adequate for a standard wax application. Anyone done something similar and offer any tips and tricks?

I am looking at having a paint correction and ceramic coating applied to an SUV. To my untrained eys it probably only needs a single stage correction but OK to go for two stage if required.
Any recommendations please for this type of service in the South London/Surrey area?

Thx

It didn’t save you money? I got asked if I had one and it saved money on the final price. They were also happy to accept the phone app as a ‘tracker’.
No, I escalated it to their manager but was met with no, it’ll cost extra on the policy, was with LV. Was a little surprised thh

I see a lot of questionable drivers with dashcams. Always makes me think maybe they’ve been in a couple of accidents before. Not saying it’s causal, but I’d be betting there’s a correlation.

Not sure why any insurance company would need or want a ceramic coating declared. It's not (IMO at least) a modification to a car, nor does it make a car more appealing to a thief, if anything, it's fairly difficult if impossible to tell if a car has been ceramic coated
At a stretch, I guess it's because a professionally applied ceramic coat is pretty expensive. My car was dinged while in the dealership not long after I had bought it. It had a new wing and then had to go back to the detailer to have the coating reapplied...this wasn't through my insurance as I wasn't at fault, so I was in a position to insist on that. However you would have thought your own insurer would just not cover the cost of replacing the coat, rather than insisting on it being declared.

Whats the deal with this ceramic coating googling suggests with my Insurance (LV) you need to declare it.

The idea of a ceramic coating is that it isn’t visible. They won’t be able to tell it’s there any more than it just being a wax/sealant.

PPF is different because in the event of an accident it’s a pain to remove and requires someone experienced removing PPF, else you can damage the paint further.

Hoping to do a quick wash today, should be helped by the polar seal coating it had last time. Gets so dusty this time of year, never this bad when I had a white car! Going to take an age for the paint to cool down though, will probably he out there with my headlamp. I have my trusty carry bag this time full of all my washing goodies :D

Sounds like you'll be doing it in the evening? On these scorching sunny days, I've found washing the car in the evenings is so much better than the mornings. Despite having shade in the morning, it always feels like I'm working against the clock, as I'm slowly losing shade by the hour. By midday, there's no shade left on my driveway. At least in the evenings, the sun is setting so no issue there, though do need to wait for the car paint to cool down.
