I play at 3440x1440p and everything on Ultra with DLSS/FG I get a minimum of 165fps, never dropping below that

AMD 9800X3D 5425mhz: Noctua NH-D15S, Asus TUF Gaming X670E-Plus , 64gb 6000mhz Corsair DDR5, Superflower 850 PSU, Zotac White RTX OC 4080 Super (+120mhz/+1000mhz)

I'm almost too afraid to ask at this point but what are people on about when they say things like "the gunplay is great"

I press a button, the gun shoots, animations, sound and screen effects vary (which can help give the illusion of weight/recoil etc). But ultimately pressing a button to shoot a gun. Feels the same to me in most games, so I'm probably missing exactly what the definition of it is.
Responsiveness is one of the key things, particularly with how each weapon feels. Sound/recoil obviously play a role in that - but you want the gun to have feedback so you can know where the limits are and for me, feeling 'snappy', is what I want with good gunplay.

Bad gunplay is where the guns feel floaty and the combat doesn't feel satisfying, weapons feel the same (i.e. COD at this stage is essentially 10 assault rifles that all do the same). From the BF6 beta, we got 3 different assault rifles that all felt different and played differently.

The NVO-228E had marginally more recoil than the other two, but hit harder and was much stronger at range. The M433 had a faster base fire rate with a middle ground of recoil - but was my preferred choice because of how aggressively you could play with (fastest ADS times, quick 'weapon up' times etc.) - and then the B36A4 (essentially a G36) had very little recoil, lowish damage but you could basically sit and hold mouse 1 and the gun wouldn't move.

Good gunplay!

What makes it floaty though? Isn't that related to how sensitive your mouse is or is it how fast you can move the gun around (which to me is the same thing as the sensitivity).

I think sound is the biggest one for me, I recall some of the pistols in Destiny too felt hefty due to the sound.

With my aging 3090 I was playing at 4k, dlss balanced with everything maxed and only getting 70-85fps roughly. Does that seem low? Hard to tell as the benchmarks are all about more recent cards.

Slow ADS times are a big one, sometimes developers use that as a way to balance weapons but it just leads to really clunky feeling combat.

Same with 'weapon up' or 'draw' times - it can feel so floating if those times take forever, it just means you'll go around a corner and you've got no chance of getting your gun up or on target. I understand that the audience who enjoys the slower paced HLL style games will says its realistic etc. but it doesn't make for satisfying gunplay, it just ends up forcing everyone to play slowly.

Good gunplay for me is predominantly about predictable handling, tight response, and solid feedback. I don't mind weapons having a lot of recoil - as long as the recoil is the same every time and I get enough feedback to know to how to counter it and feel like my inputs are immediately having an impact with a snappy response. The opposite of those (and you'll see some games have this a lot) all lead to gunplay just feeling a bit meh.

Well, earlier in this thread I said that I was prepared to be disappointed by this beta. I am very happy to say that I was not disappointed - not even close. I actually enjoyed the whole weekend a lot more than I could ever imagine.

I have a few nit picks naturally, but overall I feel like it's a uhhmm.. return to form? lol.

i found TTK all over place and whats worse pretty much half the opposing force are snipers, play game like that last night was pretty much just snipers on other side

Inevitable on a map like that. I like to run Assault with a DMR 3rd weapon as a mobile counter to them. Two to three shots to kill though.
