Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

I will get out and do some test drives but looking at a 718 is the 2.5L GTS worth the extra over the 2.5S?

Its around £5k more used. I am looking at bottom end of the market from £30 to £40k for the car, the GTS would be closer to £40k and the S £32 to £35k

IMO no. The 2.5L is already mighty quick in the S, and the GTS won’t offer you a huge amount more car.

It isn’t giving you a different driving experience, like the VVT tech you get from the 2.5 over the 2L.

Personally my money would be on a highly specced 2L because you can drive it harder without breaking speed limits as much.

The turbo and a few others bits are slightly different and it will have a wider powerband because of this, but I found the 718S to be extremely capable even if it was a bit flat at the top end. The capabilities added by the mid range torque from the turbo are not to be underestimated.

It will probably be easier to find the specific options you'd want in an S over a GTS due to more cars, but the GTS has a slightly higher base spec than the S already.

If you're planning to track it then definitely get the GTS. You'll be a bit bored with the S running out of puff at the top end all of the time. I haven't driven a 2.5 GTS but peak torque lasting another ~1000 RPM over the S is enough to say that it should keep pulling up to the red line.

Is it normal to want a 911 after you’ve purchased your first Porsche and can only afford a cayman at the time. You’ll see a few pages back I was chuffed with the purchase but recently started looking at 996 turbos

The R is more than sum of its parts but it’s probably not 20k-30k better than what you have, in experience terms it’s just a side step.

I’m a big fan of 987/997 generation Porsches and think they are peak Porsche when it comes to cars you can enjoy on road. Of course newer 981/991 and later are faster but for me they are not better!

As such why not consider making a bigger change and try to get into a really nice 997.2 Carrera model of some kind ?

Back to the R if your happy with a slight improvement in driving but like the idea of owning a truly speciale and rare car go for the R as they hold their value immensely well so if you buy it well and decide it’s not for you can probably move it on in a year with very little financial hit. Or maybe if you can put up with it try the 987.2 Spyder as it does edge the R as a road car but R is better on track.

Thanks for the reply. I've had a 911 (996.1, early cable throttle 'lightweight' car) and honestly I prefer the drive of the Cayman.

I've done some investigation and my 987 Dansk exhaust actually has 200 cell cats with it, so I'm now very tempted to keep the Cayman and do a few more bits to it (Decat Manifolds, LWFW, LSD) as I imagine it would come up another level of focus and fun with those.... and its a darn sight cheaper than a change.

Probably worth doing this and just wait longer and get a GT4 so its a bigger jump.

Will your 200 cell manifolds fit my R? If so I’d be interested just not sure if R is different as read they have thicker exhaust pipe on back box ?

I'm pretty sure the 987.1 and 987.2 manifolds are different (bolt spacing and all sorts).

I should have been clear - the exhaust back box has 200 cell secondary cats on the pipes that lead to the manifold. Stock manifolds are 400 (?) cell primary cats. I'll be removing those stock manifolds and putting on decat equal length ones.

I think on the 987 primary and secondary cats are in the manifolds.

Posted this in the EV thread, so apologies for the cross posting!

Any Taycan owners here?

My new (to me) 2024 Taycan Sport Turismo GTS is being delivered tomorrow. It replaces my 2021 M340i Touring. I had planned on going to an M3 Touring but have been considering making the jump to an EV and some of my circumstances have changed meaning an EV makes perfect sense.

Did a bit of research and really liked what I read about the Taycan.

It's a J1.1 2024 so 11 months old. Bought from an OPC so it's used/approved. I did look at J1.2 versions but price wise on the used market they are still at that point when they've not depreciated enough to make them a sensible used buy so plumped for the newest J1.1 I could find in GTS spec.

Will post pics once it arrives.

Looking forward to my first drive :)

Am I crazy to consider this ?

Average to low spec, no PSE, no Chrono or full leather.

But cheap and because its high miles I would not worry about putting on miles.

As much as I love the 740-4, you cant check it around or drive it to work lol
Depends if you aren't considering resale later in ownership. It may be hard to shift without it being dirt cheap?

ok, saw it, loved it,
Deal done

So I have the ideal garage
Tesla Model 3 days to day
718 S for a bit of fun
LP740-4 for a bit of retro feel lol

Excellent! The 718S is a fantastic car if you can live with the lack of audible theatrics!

It must be wonderful to have so many toys doing 20mph in London, though. :p

Folks, is the Porsche Tyre Insurance Product worth considering? Been offered 36 months for £550 for my Taycan GTS.

Given the state of the roads in general, and the prediliction of heavy EV's to pop tyres if you are unlucky enough to hit pot holes I was thinking of doing something like this type of cover.

I lost two tyres over the course of 2 and a bit years ownership of my previous car - M340i Touring and the cost and feeling of annoyance was sore!!!
