BMW and M Power Owners

There's a factory reset option which clears everything for all profiles - phone data, call logs, location history, settings, mpg, the lot. That's the one I use when handing a car back.

According to Google it's under Car > Settings > General > Reset vehicle data

Going up for sale in the nearish future to make room for something fun again.

What I do know is that it’ll need to be a manual, and it’ll need to be a convertible. Most likely another Boxster.

Does anyone have any experience with the BMW i4 edrive M40/50? I have been considering all sorts to replace the Lexus with in the future and its a pity that Lexus dont have a Quick Saloon EV offering. I was considering a Tesla however i have recently seen a few of these come up and although i would prefer coupe i4 Style i saw the Grand Coupe version the other day and thought it looked great. It will be a little while before i purchase and i am hoping that the M60 release will cause some owners that are coming up to the end of their lease to upgrade and have a decent amount of the M50 on the market. To he honest i am not really fussed with the reduction of range on the M50 as compared to the M40 however the increased 0-60 sounds fun and if they are similar price i wouldnt have an issue with the M50.

I believe the Tech Plus Pack is a good but unnecessary option (for me anyway) but would love the 360 camera and HK audio upgrade with Apple Carplay etc.

How is the car for servicing costs?

Any help would be appreciated.

PistonHeads did a buyers guide for the M50 a couple of months ago. It's worth looking out.

QQ : If you code things through ODBC and Bimmercode does anyone know if BMW void warranty or is it fine and they couldn't care less?

Looking to get rid of start\stop among a few other things.

They can indeed see you’ve done it, but in my experience it depends on whether it’s at all related to the issue, and if it’s an extended warranty or the original one.

Up to you whether it’s worth the risk.

I will never understand why people go to the effort of removing start stop. It just works. It's actually a really nice feature.
In start stop traffic yeh I agree, however it's a pain when you're at roundabouts and want to get away and have to wait a second or so for it to disengage, by which time that gap to go has gone.

This is my experience, approaching junctions and roundabouts sometimes the car 'switches off' and then you have a couple of seconds lull while it turns back on, gets in gear and gives you power to drive forwards, really annoys me as you say on busy roads it can mean the difference between pulling out and having to wait for the next gap which invariably the car has once again decided to take a nap

So put it into Sport and the stop/start doesn't activate? I've found it quite smart at recognising queues and stop start traffic and after the first couple of times it stops, well, stopping the engine it doesn't any more.

Yes that's what I usually do, or turn off stop start.

100% this. It's also really annoying that the BMW stop/start system kicks in when you're just coming to a stop and cuts the engine at 2-3mph instead of AFTER you've stopped. That means the car lurches slightly instead of being smooth and controlled. Also, when the engine is off it seems to reduce the power to the blower fans slightly, which is super annoying on a hot day and you've got the AC going.

No Merc I've owned ever had either of these annoyances. Can't speak for other manufacturers.

I'm not fan of stop start for the same reasons but I will say driving the other half's GLA is like piloting a washing machine.

Nothing in that car is better than any BMW I've ever driven.

The engine cutting out as you stop not after you stop was a deliberate improvement they made - the launch documentation for the 5 Series update in 2013 explained that it was changed because the engine cutting off when the car was rolling to a stop made it smoother than waiting until the car had stopped.

By the time you've released the brake, the engine is running. I have never experienced a situation with it where I've missed being able to enter a roundabout because the engine hasn't restarted yet?

I guess maybe if you're using auto hold and it's relying on accelerator input instead there may be a slight delay but not so much as I've noticed. The mild hybrid cars are even better at this (which is why the start stop on off button was removed from them).

2024 M340i, yes I use auto hold so it could be that causing a bit of a delay too.

The launch documentation must be full of **** then, because it has the complete opposite effect.
