EV general discussion

Thanks for the advice. I have skipped the ceramic coating from the dealer; if I really feel I need it will get it done at a specialist. I am just trying to get them to apply the new keyless theft fix before I pick it up now.

Maybe he's taking into account the fact that half the journey is done on cheap electricity charged at home (assuming leaving with 100%)?
No, unfortunately not. He went on to quantify it by saying "so half the journey costs the same as my old diesel and the other half is basically free so it's costing me half as much"

The guy is loaded so I doubt he ever bothered to work out what his previous car cost per mile let alone will actually work out what his current one does. It's just the default line when it comes to EVs for a lot of people which is a shame because they have more upsides than just pence per mile in fuel costs.

I'd much rather hear what people actually think about the car than some purchase justification made up running costs.

He was just one of those guys TBH. Another neighbour mentioned I had an electric, I corrected them to say it was a plugin hybrid and straight away it was "oh, worst of both worlds". I can never be bothered with these conversations so I just shrugged my shoulders and said "it's a company car".

you've got , legally I'd have thought, to use a button/interlock before driving off, otherwise your children could jump in and drive away just pressing the pedal
(the dreaded stop-start deals with the ICE car stop now, fortunately you can still drive the car with the door open though, for parking)
You need the key in the car/your pocket too.

More high mileage EV reports, this one used to be a MK taxi type thing, seems like for the age/miles covered the mechanical and battery are spot on still.

Had my first proper drive in Sport mode on some twisty roads on the way back today. The 4 wheel drive is fantastic the amount of grip is incredible and the acceleration out the corners for a big heavy tank is pretty impressive. You can feel it pull the front of the car around the corner.

Really impressed although I’m not sure the dog was as impressed as I was…. :D

It’s a bit like engaging sport mode on a diesel repmobile lol

It doesn’t change the handling…

It changes the power output, delivery and the way the 4x4 works making it 50/50 split rather than rear bios. Affects the handling quite a bit.

More importantly it makes all the dash and interior lights go red…. lol

My 2012 Insignia had the Flexride system which stiffened the suspension, increased throttle response and turned the dash red. Worth £800 of anyone’s money…

My 2016 E Class had the 64 colour ambient lighting throughout the cabin which I had set to a lovely blue hue (the green made it a very odd place to sit)

When I crashed it everything turned red - I was quite impressed that someone in Mercedes had thought of that and took the time to program it into the system :D

Think about it If you boot it in an EV it’s 50:50 ish anyway, both motors at max power and there’s nothing changing front to rear split other than reducing the output of one motor.

11% degradation over 220k miles. Saved you a blathering 12-minute 'man talks in car' video. However, I'm not certain the use case of a taxi is relevant to a standard owner.
. Thanks. Not sure why that couldn’t be posted with the video.

Not sure that’s really that great. 11 % is a fair loss and as you said it’s not parked doing nothing for long period like typical use. I did skim it. Any idea of how he charged it? All rapid or all 7kW

I had some argue that 10% loss in 3.5 years and 41,000 miles was perfectly reasonable for a Cupra Born/ID.3. I totally disagree and at that age and mileage about 95% is average.

It's more than would be expected for sure, especially in a temperate climate like the UK

Normal mode is not max power it’s also rear biased in all modes except sport or Snow modes. Sport mode 50/50 splits the power and gives all the power much sooner and gives the full 600nm torque too.

We did 0-60 and in sport it managed 4.6 seconds in normal it was 5.4. Timings may not be totally accurate as it was a phone app.
