******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

People have also been. “Playing” sc for over a decade too.

What’s funny is that you say SC is a glitchy tech demo and a **** poor at one, yet how come loads of people still “play” this game?

I think that if SC was a bad game, it would have been dead long ago. But for some strange reason, people seem to want to “play” it and not just for 5mins but for hours, weeks, months, years even.

It is indeed a very very buggy crap of a game but In my honest opinion, when “most things work” in a gaming session, i myself have experience joys i have never ever experienced in any other video game in the 35+ years I have personally been playing video games.

But hey thats just me. And before you call me a white knight, go and read just the last few posts about SC from me being angry at them

People play it as there's no other game like it out there. Is akin to ArmA series, which was/is broken since birth (although it got some significant improvement lately), but still spawn games such as Day Z, Battle Royale, devoted fanbase with plenty of mods, etc. Bohemia lost a lot due to its terrible engine. Chris cashed in a lot due to his wild promises. All are terrible/bad in comparison with a decent game, BUT people eat that up thanks to their uniqueness.

Personally, I'm impressed in how bad they've handled the testing and getting people to play this perpetual development card. ArmA 3 did it better back in the day, way better.

He's getting the Alpha testers to bug test for free. In some cases they even pay CIG for the privilege. EA and ActiBlizz are likely taking notes furiously.

I feel is something to get people going mostly, keep the interest up, make them pay up more and more. I'm fine with that in a way, but overall it looks like they have too little to show for after a decade. The engine presentation was great (hopefully is actually real and not made up), but the rest...? SQ42 is "about to launch" and I fear it will be rather limited with the ships you'll be able to play, gameplay mechanics, etc., since they're MIA in general with SC. Fans will most likely love it, but overall I see wide "meh" when you account for the development time.

Heck, probably modders will make Starfield a better game than SQ42 with enough time :)) (on the SP side, of course).

I've often wondered what will come first. SC release, or an uplifting post from wolfie.

You're currently in a three way battle with IvanDobskey and imtoooldforthis for the OCUK Ultimate Victor Meldrew misery award. Ivan's currently in 3rd place FWIW.

So I'm currently looking g to get my teeth into something new at the moment and was wondering if this is worth a go ? Have just about visited allmajor systems and completed most of Starfield tasks .

Do t want to start it though if others have a massive head start ?

Someone mention steak!!!!!

lol......

Mmmmm Steak! Dang that was a good meal!

Best. Stake. Ever....

I do like the way this thing looks externally at least from this vid. And they've Finally does retractable guns in a good way.

What's with the Keel? A Keel is not an astatic thing, its under water, sail boats have them, it helps stop them from "Keeling Over" when the wind is pushing against the sails, Its not a Sloop, its not a Cutter, its not a Ketch, its not a Schooner, its not a Fully Rigged Ship, it doesn't have any rigging, it doesn't have any sails, its not a boat!

This to me is an example of where a talented artist created something beautiful as concept art and the stupid oath tasked with turning art in to a physical thing thought he could improve on it by making an addition to it, all you had to do was make drawing something tangible, that's it...next time, please, don't have any idea's.
--------

This is a Schooner, See it lean? its being pushed from the Starboard side, its able to move forward, at high speed despite the wind pushing it from right-angles because sails are actually wings, certainly on this type of boat. don't think of it as blowing into the sail to make them move in the direction you're blowing, like you would your toy batch boat, instead the sails pull the boat through the water by creating air pressure differences on either side, like how a plane wing has more surface area along the top than the bottom, this forces the air to move faster along the top of the wing than the bottom, that generates lift by sucking the top of the wing up.

The Keel allows for this by pushing against the 830 time more dense water stopping it from capsizing, at least if you know what you're doing, there is a balance to how far you can push that to get speed and pulling in sail to avoid capsizing.

Sorry, bit of a tangent

I don't actually mind the 'keel' aesthetically tbh. Sure it does nothing but change the shape/form of the underside of the craft but it breaks up the silhouette that I like. It is like a spoiler on a car that really doesn't work or need one.

Not everyone has to like it hey, there dozens of ships don't like but hey that is fine cause there are hundreds to pick from. Heck there are cars in real life I love but have additional design features I go, hmm I was it just didn't have that edge or that fake duct to smooth it out but overall it still beautiful car. Similar thing here for many I expect.

Yea but u just proved my point. case in point broken elevators. Instead of getting a few devs trying to do hot fixes after hot fixes, scrap it. leave it as it is and get those said developers to help finish off the new transit system(which rewrites everything about elevators, hangers etc)

And then you have elliott and his gooneys trying to add new missions on top of a none existent economy and broken mission system and no reputation system.

instead. forget adding these pointless broken events and missions and instead, go and assist and work on economy, the new misison system, the new rep v2....

Or if Elliott is incapable of helping those said teams out, go and instead just design and spec out missions for nyx, terra, etc etc.

There is a ton of stuff Elliott can do that ticks many of the boxes in 1.0 feature column. But no lets waste our time adding new misisons that dont work and are poorly designed....

Your point about no featues have not come in this year. well can u name me one feature that has come that is from the 1.0 column?

Where is engineering gameplay?(4.0 meant to come....) Its mental. This new approach is clearly not working and the more they **** about polishing and stabalising a game thats not even half done, the longer it takes to get to 1.0.

4.5 years? more like 45 years time.

Fed up and there is a reason i have barely touched this game for close to 2 months now.

I am going through a phase, it starts off with being ****** at CIG and then after, once that is over, you then become immune to it and just dont care about the game anymore and eventua;u give up and stop playing it etc which is the dangerous phase to be in.

Last week, logged into for the first time and the event was rubbish. boring. move boxes..... The promised missions for that event wasnt working, just cargo hauling which half the time, doesnt work because of crap freight elevators. O and poor design . WHats the point of the distro centeres?

This game is in trouble. they need to release sq42 within the next 6-9 months or just cancel that game that 90% of the people who have funded this game, dont care about and focus heavily on you know, the actual product thats in our hands, the product hat is actually maing them money aka SC mmo..
sorry but I backed a game on a FAR smaller scale and all this best of everything game was not on the horizon. I didn't ask CIG to over reach and if they have that is on them not me. I fully expect S42 and SC to release in some form eventually .. but hypothetically if they were to cancel S42 then imo they should offer refunds for all those players who want it. IF SC was cancelled and only S42 came out I would be disappointed ... but if S42 was cancelled I would want a refund. not saying I would get one but it would be the ultimate bait and switch imo.

a lot of what you posted I agree with (I didn't realise when I replied it was 2 weeks ago).... but again it was CIG who chose to push the game out in a "playable" state and use that as a platform to sell ships, land mass, and all sorts of stuff. in theory I totally agree.... refactor after refactor and building content on a backbone which is ultimately going to be replaced makes no sense at all. they would be better taking the whole thing offline and working on it behind closed doors and not worrying about keeping it playable..... but if they did there would be an uproar and probably more importantly people would stop throwing money at them. it's all an issue of their own making.and now they made their bed they are kind of having to lie in it for better or for worst.

Sorry to break it to you but the majority of the funds they got is from sc players, not from sq42 backers. Infact you can't even purchase sq42 anymore since 2/3 years now

Years of poor management, lack of direction and wasted money.

I backed for SQ42, but i can understand both sides of the argument. I really wish they had focused on getting SQ42 out.

This has a major feeling of sunk cost falacy with more and more money 'needed' to finish development but them still putting out vidoes where they havent even designed the game systems yet. I think this has proven what the role of a publisher is in reigning in developer bloat.
