New £2k Gaming PC inc Monitor

Thanks, @Capitano - but it looks like OLED is another £300 or so over an IPS screen so that's probably a bit rich for me now. Shout if you don't think that's right though, because it looks like my chosen monitor isn't currently available so I'm probably going to need a rethink there (or at least not buy from OC).

They definitely are expensive so you're probably right in your assumption. Doesnt need to be now, but I think overtime you should look into getting one if you can because the difference in visuals alone look night and day and you can never go back once you go OLED

Back now and looking to buy in the next day or so, but of course OC has timed out my shopping basket and some options aren't available so I've had to recreate it (minus the monitor - see above).

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,533.84 (includes delivery: £7.99)

Hope that's right and I've not forgotten any advice. Do please shout if I have, or you have more suggestions!

Note that my case is 207mm across externally so I think I have about 160mm clearance between it and the CPU on the motherboard. That rules out the 130 and 140 CPU coolers I think. This should be okay though, shouldn't it?

I've also added a random thermal paste. Or do people use "pads" these days as a more reliable option?

Thanks, everyone.

Just buy some MX-4 it’s all you need.

That said that stuff that comes with the cooler will do just fine

@jomala Just and FYI dont post competitors links on these forums as they are run and paid for by OCUK. Remove it before the mods do.

I would be carefull about the non SE versions as I think they are taller than the SE versions

Which case do you own??

Antec P180. Old. Happy to buy a new one, so long as an RGB glow isn't compulsory :-)

Think they are only 3mm different, though I understand that could be a crucial 3mm!

Thats a great case bt very old and with poor airflow compared to todays cases. I can recommend this one as I have built in it. No rgb at all and good standard fans

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £54.95 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Loads of airflow potential, easy to build in and takes huge air coolers (up to 184mm!!) with ease.

i had this very case, for the price tag its very nice and solid

You will need more fans for it as its obviuosly built to a price and only inlcudes 1 fan.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £20.84 (includes delivery: £0.00)

I was going to recommend the phanteks m25 gen 2 fans but they need to use the new link hub wwhich dramatically increases the price and the fans are much louder than the arctic ones.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £40.90 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Thanks for the further advice, @dfour and @WARburton. Quiet is definitely good.

But does no-one want a DVD drive any more? :D

That case looks nice, but it's interesting that it seems to mark a shift from the guided airflow that the P180 focused on to just having a big open (dust-free) space. Guess that's because passive CPU coolers are no longer used. Am I right that you are mounting these extra fans as inlet fans at the front, and leaving the outlet through the back and top largely passive?

In general No or buy an external drive as they are pretty cheap.

Yes or you can add further fans to the top, rear and below the gpu to increase the airflow in/out. All depends on your budget as this wasnt in your original needs to your budget.

Okay, thanks.

Last question, I hope. If I'm buying a case, I feel I should leave my previous PC workable, which suggests to me buying a 1TB PCI-e SSD for the new one and (after transfering the data) returning my smaller, older 300GB SSD to the old PC. Does it matter what SSD you buy? I currently have Crucial P310 1TB M.2 2280 PCI-e 4.0 NVMe Solid State Drive (SKU: STO-CRU-03049) = £61.99 in my basket. Sensible?

Also depending upon how much software and games above the opertaing system 1gb might not be enough storage so you might be better off looking at a 2tb drive. The t500 Tetras suggested is very good.
