Best films to showcase surround sound

If you've got Atmos speakers then there's a scene in Nope that sounds like it's on the ceiling. There's also a few horror films that do this well, The Conjuring 2 is one that springs to mind.

Could throw in some music concerts as well, as it's not just big bada booms

Especially This one,

I regret selling the DVD I had. IIRC it had more than one Dolby Digital Soundtrack on it, The 40th anniversary release blu-ray has an Atmos soundtrack, the older & more expensive blu-ray has HTS-HD Master Audio. I've not bought either because A) I'm not paying that much for Either Blu-ray when I've watched the DVD more times than I can remember & B) I'm not upgrading my hardware to Atmos for one blu-ray, I might have done 20 years ago, but I have other priorities & hobbies now.

Going back a bit now but when I got my first surround sound setup, I thought Band of Brothers series was great in places.
Of course, largely explosions and bullets, ricochets etc.

I've watched that before, but only with TV audio, but that's good to hear because I recently got the Blu-ray box set waiting to be watched.

new discs are backward compatible, so you'll get DTS core from DTS master audio. yeah can cost a bit to update from 5.1/ 7.1 system, how many times bought movies- VHS, DVD, 1080p, 4K BD etc (4K are too much) . I bought new av pre amp (old one was out of date no HDMI) two pairs of speakers, cable, connectors, and already have power amplifiers.

Edge of Tomorrow and Tenet if you want to give your subwoofer a work out.
The bass drops in the first 30 seconds of Edge of Tomorrow are just . Rumour has it that it was deliberately mixed a bit hot.

Tenet is a great one too. Nolan tends to have mixes that are a bit louder in general than other films, but Tenet just takes this to another level. I think we ended up having to watch it something like 7dB's lower than our usual volume to not get blown out of our seats whenever something happened. That said, it's certainly a welcome change to a lot of releases that fall under the Disney umbrella which tend to sound more than a little quiet and anemic.

yeah that is a sub killer, I thought it's around 10hz. Even on mine the subs move a lot, and I've read someone has blown up a sub

As you said Nolan has hard to hear speech.

Alien: Earth is not too bad, nothing amazing though. It is from streaming on Disney though, so I'm not sure if they are reducing the quality.

Another vote for Top Gun Maverick

I watched Deadpool & Wolverine a few days ago and thought the music sounded great, along with the various explosions properly made the room vibrate.
