Mafia: The Old Country

I don't see why not. The only negatives are, that you maybe a bit underwhelmed with the ending, there's a fair bit of linear stealth, and that it's short - ala typical Mafia games.
For £30 for a key, why not. Even if you complete it in an evening or on a weekend. Cant really complain for that price :)
Heard it has a lot of cutscenes, only thing putting me off

Shame more and more studios are moving to UE5 and not sticking with their own game engines. Agree that this would have ran better and possibly looked better if they stuck with their previous game engine.

Mafia 3 engine the original mafia 1?

I guess it's jsut far easier to find developers for unreal engine
I remember playing Mafia 1 remake not too long ago and thought the graphics were really good and it also ran great and had its own unique look. Theses days, UE5 games all look the same and so the games art has lost its original indentity.

Perhaps mafia 1 remake was helped by the fact it was recreating an art style made many years ago.

Is this a different engine then to the remake?

Just double checked and yes, both Mafia 1 remake and Mafia 3 use the same engine. Having already made 2 games using the same engine and having some experience with it, why didn't they just stick with the same engine?

I really enjoyed this game but the knife fights were infuriating. It just felt like no matter what buttons I pressed on my controller Enzo just did whatever he wanted.

Finished yesterday (17 hours, hard, simulation driving, disabled quest markers). I have things to critique:

- UE5 sucks and was a bad choice, Mafia Remake engine would have been much better
- stealth is a bit too simple/simplified
- some gameplay animation work is a bit stiff
- too many knife fights, given how mechanically not-that-interesting they are

But, I also have things I loved:

- wonderfully realized early 20th century Sicily setting
- generally good writing, likeable characters, strong ending
- fun gameplay overall, even the simple stealth, good gun feel, fun driving in simulation mode

Overall, I would say it is on similar level as the other Mafia sequels when it comes to my enjoyment of it. Not as good as the original 2002 masterpiece, but still really good, immersive, beautiful movie-like experience.

8.5/10

Sounds like it's definitely worth it for £32.99 elsewhere for a key ;)

Told you so moment incoming lol
I've since asked him, what he rates the Mafia 1 remake out of 10 - that should give me an idea versus his rating for this one, whether it's still worth it to me. As I liked the remake of the original. If he doesn't, then that means he dislikes both; thus I'll probably like this one ;)
I however agree with him regarding any complaints UE5 related, but it is what it is, with UE5 - there's nothing we can do about it, and I still want to play XYZ game that uses there engine, due to the subject matter, so I just ignore that factor, which I have in many UE5 games.
