What TV shows are you currently watching

The X Files tails off around late series 3, as I recall… It gets way bogged down in all the conspiracy stuff, rather than the monster of the week anthology type thing. It went on for ages, I think, like 7 seasons. I gave up on it.

A big part of the draw at the time was that both the leads are smoking hot.

I’ve got one episode left on season 2 of Severance. It’s got better ratings than season 1 but I think it’s much weaker. I think the scope has broadened out far too much and it’s ended up way too sprawling. I think this is a problem with some tv shows, and particularly sci fi. You start out with a whole load of ideas and then they get trimmed down for your first run and you end up with something nice and clean and streamlined. Then the show is successful so you need another season so you pick up all the ideas that got chopped out the first time round and put them back together but it just isn’t as neat and tidy. Westworld comes to mind
I quite enjoyed S1 of Severance (7.5/10) but wasn’t happy that it didn’t conclude properly so given your comments I am undecided about S2.

Why didn't S1 conclude 'properly'? I thought it was a fantastic ending! Everything had been leading to that point and was the perfect place to end, it has viewers begging for a 2nd season.

Whilst i agree S2 wasn't as good as S1, it was no way as bad as Westworld went. S2 has long drawn out visuals, but it progresses the plot, explains much more and dat ending!!!

Give it a go yourself, you may or may not enjoy, but for me, roll on S3.

I watched the last episode of season 2 last night and I agree the ending is really good. It felt like there was a lot of filler earlier in the season to get there, though.

As for whether it gets as bad as Westworld… there’s time, we’ve only had two seasons. Westworld was still fairly coherent at 2.

Standby for the filler to multiplied in S2! I still rate S2 and Severance in general.

Westworld - i grew up on the movies and the concept is fascinating. But they did us dirty in later seasons, it all fell apart when they left the park.

Butterfly

Came out on Amazon Prime less than a week ago, blitzed through the 6 EPs of season 1, really liked it. Love Korean action shows and this doesn't disappoint. The main female character is pure flames too. Hopefully they get a Season 2 renewal!

Tried to crack on with Severance S2 last night with episode 4, but it’s just totally lost me now. Just trying far too hard, the whole thing has become so contrived and nonsensical it’s hard to remain interested. There’s some good character work still but it’s getting lost in the wtf.

Might give the new Jason Momoa show a go later as an alternative, looks pretty brain-off but might be alright.

There’s probably a solid 4 hours of really good show in season 2, but it’s surrounded by loads of rambling rubbish. Someone needs to do a supercut just following the main thread that leads into the final episode, because that story is still interesting and well done.

All the stuff about the founder of Lumon is super lame, please tell me it's not all about that.

Bioshock did a much better job telling that sort of narrative, and better written with a much more compelling story behind it.

Ah it's not just me then. Stuck around episode 5 where I think they end up in the woods.

I did watch all of season 2 but I don't think I'll watch another season. It's just one of those shows where I think "shall I watch that, or shall I watch 'other show' instead", and I pretty much always opted for the other show. That tells me it's not entertaining enough (to me) to carry on with.

Nah, perfect place to end. I was totally invested in S1 and the build up to that moment and then credits was "OMG!".

Left me wanting more and tbh lots of season finales do this, it's a journey, not a race to the finish. At least that's my wife keeps telling me.

Have you seen S2 ending?

I was quite happy with the first two episodes of Alien: Earth, and am excited to catch the third today!

Definitely re-writing history a bit, but I can live with that for a new story in that universe; instead of BIG CORPORATION BAD, it's now 3 BIG CORPORATION 3 BAD!

Seriously though, am enjoying the portrayal of the alien, and the probable pending Alita: Battle Angel style badassery of the lead actress.

I started watching Endeavour last week and I'm already up to season 6, I'm rationing myself to two per night. I put off watching the show as I had decided that it couldn't be as good as Morse so what's the point. I was wrong, it's brilliant and has captured the late sixties and early seventies perfectly, a time I remember well. I intend watching Endeavour, Morse and Lewis back to back, can't get more immersed in the story than that. :D

Finished Game of Cards. A rewatch of the first 5 seasons and the final one without Kevin Spacey for the first time.

I have to say on a second watch it's probably best to watch the first two seasons and leave it there, since it's a complete story arc.

As for the final season, they definitely "jumped the shark"

Just started Dope Thief on Apple TV.
