Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [15th - 18th August 2025]

I think Keane's reaction there (and the reaction of some others) really highlights our problem. Arsenal are a strong, experienced side, and I think most people would agree we at the very least played well and probably deserved a point. But no, it's being framed as some sort of disaster result! Ultimately the next results will matter more, but this wasn't a bad start.
Regardless of how well we played, or how poor Arsenal were, it was another goal keeping howler which decided the outcome. United cannot allow another season to pass without bringing in a reliable goalkeeper!

Sort of the problem when things have been bad for quite a while though.

In isolation its great - easy to believe most performances won't look like that though and ultimately still can't capitalise on them when they are good. Definitely unlucky yesterday

I am worried about the goalkeeper situation, I feel like they've decided to give Onana one more season... unless that changes in the next week or so.

There's also the fact that, generally speaking, we play quite well against better sides. Fulham and Burnley are the next two fixtures and that will be the real test, can we replicate that performance yesterday? I hope so.

Yeah its a tricky one because good keepers aren't that common and the figures around Donnarumma sound silly and he still has plenty of mistakes in him. I think the pool of "guaranteed" keepers is very small.

Yeah, I think that the fact we outplayed Arsenal is a good thing but as you say, unless you outplay and beat the smaller teams it doesn't mean much. Anyway, are Arsenal that great these days. Something like 39% of their xG last season came from set pieces and corners. Thats ridiculous. They were playing great football for a while there and now they have turned into a somewhat boring set piece team.

We had some crippling injuries in attack and the ones that weren't injured were woefully out of form. We just weren't creating a lot, it's not a strategy we were trying to implement.

That being said, we need to see some pretty massive improvement and soon!

I only saw the second half, the only bar I've seen around here (on holiday) showing sports was closed until 17.30 UK time.

I was really impressed by what I saw in that half compared to last season, it was night and day in most areas but unfortunately the same issue was there: being able to create clear cut chances. I'm patient with that for now considering it's a whole new front three.

Can't agree more with the other United fans, we need to be picking up points against the teams that aren't the calibre of Arsenal, City, Liverpool and the like.

Yea, it's one thing playing with the hunger and energy on the opening day in a big match and against sides that will leave you space to attack but it'll be a completely different challenge vs sides that will sit off and look to play on the break.

Cunha will be hugely important for you this season. He's definitely not a polished diamond (and I don't think he ever will be) and can be as bit of a headless chicken at times but he's somebody that provide you with that spark and bit of magic in the final third that you missed last season and will be so important against the smaller sides.

I thought he looked excellent yesterday, he's good in and around the box and can also carry the ball forward from deeper areas. Once he's got a good understanding with Bruno and Mbeumo, I can see them causing problems for a lot of teams. I do think between them they have the ability to unlock these defensive teams, especially with Amad out wide. The issue is going to be defending counter attacks with just one of Casemiro/Ugarte.

Implementing Sesko successfully around them will be the next challenge, but he should be getting a decent amount of service.

You can always spot the clubs who have spent some time in the lower leagues by the fact their fans still do the 'you're **** ahhhh' thing when a goal kick is taken.

Small time scruffs :p

Everton look gash, absolute nothing first half but not surprising given there isn't a full back or winger on the pitch.

I'd be fuming if that was given against my team. I'm not sure what he's meant to do, it's not like he's stuck his hand out.

Sure he's moving into it, but he's moving his whole body, not his arm.
